Here's a very strong local player on a hill-hill finals table...

This is a friend of mine, whom I think would call a foul on himself, plus he grew up on 9ftr's before the ultra fast cloth became common. He definitely has a powerful stroke.

His opponent called a bad hit.

What say you?

The opposition basically said, "That's an impossible shot not to double hit, went too many rails"

How could that even be considered a bad hit? Of course it was good. The cue ball and object ball were a diamond apart!

Looks like a little inside to avoid the 2, which in turn leads to running english coming off the side rail, which is why it went 7 rails. Only way it would be a bad hit is if the 2 wobbled...... JMO

His opponent is an idiot. Also your friend has a ton of stroke. That slight pop of the cue ball helps the english take too.

Looks good to me. If the opponent had any doubts the shooter will foul, he/she should've called for a referee to watch the hit. Otherwise, judgement goes to the shooter.

It's kinda like calling people out when they double-hit.

Universe #1: "What do you mean by I double-hit? I was the one shooting it and I didn't feel it. You standing there and you can tell?"
Universe #2: "Yea .. your cue ball path is different."
Universe #1: "Let me show you again" (and he goes to set up a completely different scenario...)

At some point, I have stopped calling people from the other universe out.
 
Where in the path of the cue ball does the other side think the double hit occurred? It looked to me like the cue stick didn't get as far as the object ball and the object ball was a long way from the cue ball.

It's not impossible to double hit in that position, but I think it takes a lot of work and you have to be trying for it. And it will be pretty obvious.
 
That's one of the craziest calls I've seen LOL, usually it's someone arguing that 2 balls 1/4 inch apart were a good hit when the cueball follows 2 rails after contact, not something like this where it would be impossible to double hit. They were more than a diamond apart, and on a diamond which has bouncy rails.
 
Wow, it's like someone just learned about double hits and now thinks everything is a double hit.

Just in case there was even 1% doubt, that settles it. The cue didn't come nearly far
enough to hit the object ball again.

What I think might have happened is the opponent was looking away and looked back
just after he shot the ball and saw both object ball and cueball going in the same general
direction and with a similar speed. He missed the fact that the cueball hit a rail first before
following the object ball.

Cue ball path is one of the clearest indicators of a bad hit sometimes. We actually had this come up in our APA TLC match this past weekend with a rep watching.

His answer was it was too close to tell and asked the shooter what he thought. Any guess what his answer was?

However, if you look at where the cue ball went right after contact it was very clear he double hit it as there isnt a tangent line nor enough time/distance to get it there legally with spin of any type.

You need to get your rep/ref trained better. It's hard to find good help.

In defense of the opponent, at least he didn't make a big scene and hold up the game. But he does need to learn more about how stroke works. Maybe Travis could teach him.;)
