Scott Erwin Cues and a cue repair

I know Scott and gave referred and sent him work. I think truly he's finding his way and having some growing pains.

He's a good guy and I'm sure it'll work out.

Thanks for the positive thoughts.

If you know Scott and refer people to him maybe you can tell Scott not to screw around with people property and have no communication. That is bad business.

That comment is not directed at you whatsoever, your a solid businessman with a lot of very good deals, I respect you and we have done a few really positive deals.

Here's an example of his stellar work

So what your telling me is, if you question his work practices and communication skills you get less then acceptable work.

I hate to see such unprofessionalism here, sorry to see such an issue

I've dealt with the guy before and exchanged many emails.
He's a busy guy and there is always those things that happen that is out if anyone's control..
Be patient, and he will deliver... I don't think he is out to " get " anyone.
If he is doing a repair for you he is probably doing you a favor, usually cue makers/builders machines are occupied by the custom cues they have in process..

Best of luck.

Just because he is busy doesn't mean the guy can't shoot the OP an email once in a while and reply.
Geeeezzzzzzzz........If I ran my business like this I'd be living under a bridge.

OP, thanks for telling us about this.

Still no contact. Scott has been online on Facebook, I am on his friends list. As soon as message via Facebook chat......he logs out....he is clearly avoiding me.

Anyone on here that knows him want to talk some sense into him near Sarah, MS?

Just an aside here,I think I read you are in MN and pass through Minneapolis... if that is the case, the next time you need work done just drop it off at Doc's in Spring Lake Park, MN - you could probably ship it to them too - they have always done good work and are a real store, not a 1-man cue repair out of their garage. They also get work done in a very timely manner, especially if you tell them you need it by X day, etc.

Just thought I'd mention as another avenue if/when you get your cue back and still need work done...

If my only knowledge of custom cue makers was this forum, I would be tempted to avoid going custom and just buy production cues.

It amazes me the number of complaints about custom cue makers. Complaints like generally screwing over customers, shoddy work, lack of communication, missed deadlines, broken promises.

Maybe there are just as many complaints about production cues, but AZBers are not so quick to let on they own production cues, because how can I ever be taken seriously with a cue priced under two grand?

But I am very glad to see these reports about cue makers, whether they be custom or production makers. Forewarned is forearmed.

In any event the custom makers will never miss not getting my small orders, and I'll help clear off their huge backlog by not trying to add to it.

Do some searches, you will find that Predator and Poison have crappy warranties and lots of issues. You will find people complaining about OB Cues and receiving excellent customer service from Royce. You will read about and see the horror stories of Meucci. It goes on and on.

Custom cue makers are soon matching the reputation that mechanics and contractors have.
They seem to be striving hard to get that reputation.
It's earned, you know, just like everything else.

Yes, going production is certainly easier and you will have a cue in your hands in a matter of days.

Besides I've never felt there was some great huge difference between the custom makers and the production cues, assuming you're getting good production cue, Schon, Jacoby etc.

I've only had problems with one production company, viking, but have had issues with a couple custom makers who people seem to love on here, I'm sure some makers treat old returning customers better then first timers, which makes no since. I had Scott father make me several cues with great service. I have found a couple cue builders on here that I'd buy anything they make, but honesty goes a long way. And standing behind there product goes even further, very rare to find.

Ok guys an update here...I received a picture of the cue work and a confirmation of tracking. I have forwarded pics to a friend repair/cuemaker, IMO the best.

To say I'm not impressed with the pictures is a complete understatement.

From the pics, there looks to be a taper issue on the butt right where the butt meets the trim ring. It has to match the taper of the rest of the cue or else it looks and feels funny.

I will wait to get it in my hands to confirm. If this is the case tho, Scott has caused more work and money for me. I can completely understand tho why Scott has been hiding from me, he could of screwed this up.

Wow.

This is the first I have ever heard of an issue with Scott.

My advice to others is to avoid. The pattern I have seen over the years is someone does excellent work, but once they seem to start having issues, it usually never gets better and then someone loses a cue because he has quit or whatever.

I would hate to see that happen to any of my AZ brothers.

Ken
