I'm in Louisiana with an enclosed garage and looking to put a new pool table in there. The summer gets to 90-100 degrees high humidity with short winters in the low 30's.

Its a 14.5x26' room with lots of windows and very poorly insulated. I intend on getting a 15000 BTU window a/c unit. For the most part, the A/C will only be on when someone is in the room playing.

So my question is, should I be worried about the extreme heat humidity/cold warping the wood or ruining the rails? It will most likely be a diamond 9ft. There will not be any direct sunlight on the table.

Anyone kept their pool room in these conditions without much trouble with the table ruining?

I'm not sure how much a heavy duty pool table cover will help.

Why not spend the money on insulating the room first? Let's say you put a table in there as-is, and it gets damaged. now you've spent money on the table, money to repair the table, and then you're gonna have to spend money to insulate the room to prevent future damage.

Its impossible to insulate the room. It has 2 walls of windows stack next to each other throughout. About 13 windows.

I live in SW FL. I have a 9' diamond pro in my garage. I have a mini split in the wall that I only turn on when I play. I insulated the garage door. and put thin carpet over the concrete floor. I've had the table in there for years without any negative affects. hope this helps.

Thanks for the input.

About how many years now?

I have a table in my garage, but Colorado is a little of a climate that Louisiana. My Garage is a detached, cinder block structure with no "real" insulation, no heat, no cooling system, so it can get really hot during the summer and really cold during the winter. The one thing that I've learned is that the constant extreme changes in temperature does funny things to the rails and the wood. So I learned to try and keep the temp in the garage as constant as I could. My advice would be not to run the air only when someone is in there, but to start it up a couple of days before and get the place to a desired temp and bring the air down and try to keep it as close to that temp as possible. My first winter and summer were rough ones on the rails and cloth, since then I've been able to keep it to about a 30 degree fluctuation and it seems to be doing fine. Here in this climate I can use a swamp cooler and a small electric heater. I sealed up the garage as best I could, instead of real insulation I put area rugs on the floor, hung moving blankets on the walls and over the windows and in the frame work above the table I put a bunch of 2 X 4's and plywood and use the extra space (make-shift attic) as a storage area for boxes of old cloths, books, seasonal items, etc... all of that is pretty good insulation. It all seems to work out pretty good

I bought the table new, it was delivered in 2007. I think as long as you get a Diamond you shouldn't have any trouble. It doesn't ever get really cold here, so I don't know how that would affect the table.

when I asked a top carom table mechanic about the effects of my new carom table in the garage
he replied no problem for houston tx
would not recommend it for ny city though he said

better hot than cold was the answer I got

Along with that AC in the window, get some ceiling fans (or floor fans) to keep the air mixed up. Maybe even get an humidifier to offset the humidity. The you won't have much to worry about, unless your pool shootin' buds want to use some powder.

Get yourself a Pool Glove franchise goin'
