do you guys know any cue makers that makes cues without a larger butt. seems like all the cues i see are cues with a very large butt end. I would like a cue with a good taper from butt to shaft with a pro taper shaft.

i would like a butt taper like this one.
notice the taper of the shaft and also the straightness of the butt, it doesn't go bigger in the butt end Also look at that shaft taper, I can't find any shafts with such a pro taper like this one.

Here's another example of the butt taper.

Does anyone knows any brands of cues or cue makers that makes cues with this type of geometry? I can't find any and I've looked a lot.

Zac Cues

Scott Zachow is a cuemaker in Vancouver Canada, he makes slim butt cues and special taper shafts like the ones you are looking for. He hand makes everything, no cmc. great cue maker, his website is zaccues.com.

Ill be honest, his web site is not designed to show his cues properly.

a buddy of mine had a Josey built with a smaller butt. hits pretty darn well, and i'm not really a fan of keith's cues (too busy for me). everyone i know that's dealt with keith has had nothing but great things to say. maybe check into that as an option.

I've owned many cues such as Schon, where the butts are on the thin side.
Many custom cuemakers seem to stay away from the fat butts unless it's an old school cue or a conversion.
It depends what you consider thin.

The old Rambow's, Brunswick cues like Willie Hoppe signature cues, Master Stroke,
etc. range from 1.33 to 1.40 inches diameter above the butt cap, which is huge.
Cues with diameters between 1.20 to 1.25 are pretty common.
I measured 2 Schons last week, the old one was at 1.28 and the newer cue was 1.20.

Beyond normal dimersions you should buy a Tad.
Buy a Tad anyway, you won't be sorry.

You should try to Barioni Cues:

I also have bee talking to Josey to make me a full splice and
he seems to have no problems making whatever butt width you want.

I just measured the very back of the butt cap on my favorite cues and
they were all either 1.25" or one was 1.23".
One cue I just got about 6 months ago is an amazing cue but it's too
wide - for me - in the back and I've never warmed up to it. Its width is 1.3"

Hope this helps.

Keith is quite capable of making a conventional looking titlist style cue. My Josey has four sharp points with veneers...

The cocobolo cue has a slim handle, and to me it looks like your looking for a meucci whip taper shaft, which I could just lengthen a 14 taper back further. I also have a jatoba wood cue with that same slim taper. Jatoba is the wood thats in the top cue.

Slim tapper

My buddy here in Austin built me the lower cue as a breaker but all of his have the slim taper. 30mm versus 32 of my Allen Green above.

Nice man, this looks close to the ones I posted, Do you also have a picture of the shafts ?

Also, what kind of cue are those?

I made those, and the shafts for the top two are done, the cocobolo cue the shaft is at final stage, just need to tap, put collar on, tip and ferrule. But my shafts have a 14 in taper, but I can obviously make it longer. Here's a pic of what my shafts look like.

Do you have a caliper and a yard stick?
Measure the average taper per inch of the handle .
From the top to the bottom.

They look nice man, I think the shafts needs more of a pro taper.

I have an old R13 with a thinner butt. It is in excellent condition and weighs in at 19.3 oz.

Get some calipers and measure the cue 1/2" by 1/2" because you can't tell squat from a photo.
