Back in May I stopped in at Ernie's shop and asked him if he could make me two new shafts and JPs for my "travel" Gina. He was right in the middle of finishing up his 50th anniversary cues -- a huge project. Who knows what other orders he had or personal tribulations he had going on.
He took the cue and said, "It'll be awhile."
I asked" What's awhile?"
And he replied, "Mid-August." I smiled and left him the cue and a deposit.
At the end of July Gail said, "Too bad you new shafts won't be here in time for your birthday (the 14h)."
And I said, with total confidence, "They'll be here."
On August 10, Ernie called me to let me know he was overnighting the cue, new shafts, and JPs and I told him I'd immediately send the balance due. I had them August 11.
Two cues, multiple shafts, rewraps, refinishes, and JPs, Ernie has *never once* missed a deadline and actually has alway been a little early.
That's how some guys are. Others always seem to have an excuse, an emergency, a rationale.
