my take on cuemakers , case makers and table mechanics.

i remember the game well. it always worked where the last person telling the story was different than the 1st person telling it.

ironic... i have made reference to that exact same game myself on this forum when quoting some one.

i see you joined this forum last year. i guess you are unaware of rkc holding 3,000.00 a customer had paid him and had not done the work . rkc admitted as much.

i guess you are unaware of rkc holding onto a customers rails and not doing the work in a timely manner. the rails were left at diamonds factory and rkc spent months on the west coast. again ...rkc admitted the customer was right.

so you see....my opinion is not based on what this or that customer said or some 3rd party reference. it is based on what the men in question typed theirselves in response to customers greivances.

sadly those threads were deleted ...as a few were about showman so you can not read for yourself what was typed by the men in question.

as for rkc's repution. you are entitled to your opinion based on what info you have aquired as i am based on what info i have.

there are quite a few who think highly of rkc and showman both. then there are people like me who do not think much of either one. i don't think my posts...as well as other posters who think like i do will have much effect on eithers reputation.

other threads which were a whole lot more negative than this one have not affected their work load and i don;t think this one will either. people ....like you are going to think what they want to think. some have to find out for theirselves what others already know. some people think...it won't happen to them because it only happened to 1 out of 5 customers. then when they happen to be that one out of 5 they come on here crying about what a low life lieing thief that person is.
Help the person in Seattle that is seeking help, you'll find his request in the talk to a mechanic forum.

Here's something for you and everyone like you to think about. The hardest jobs in the world, are made easy, by those who never have to do them!

i have never said your job was easy.

also fyi .....i have never said you were not good at what you do....in case you ever bring that up.:D

the worst i have ever said is that you have made promises that you could not keep . ....some times.

asmy friend above said....help me out and prove me wrong. :D

Back in May I stopped in at Ernie's shop and asked him if he could make me two new shafts and JPs for my "travel" Gina. He was right in the middle of finishing up his 50th anniversary cues -- a huge project. Who knows what other orders he had or personal tribulations he had going on.

He took the cue and said, "It'll be awhile."

I asked" What's awhile?"

And he replied, "Mid-August." I smiled and left him the cue and a deposit.

At the end of July Gail said, "Too bad you new shafts won't be here in time for your birthday (the 14h)."

And I said, with total confidence, "They'll be here."

On August 10, Ernie called me to let me know he was overnighting the cue, new shafts, and JPs and I told him I'd immediately send the balance due. I had them August 11.

Two cues, multiple shafts, rewraps, refinishes, and JPs, Ernie has *never once* missed a deadline and actually has alway been a little early.

That's how some guys are. Others always seem to have an excuse, an emergency, a rationale.

I look at that example as installing the cloth on a pool table, time frames can be met, but now, if you'd have ask him to build you a cue from scratch in that same time frame, what do you suppose his answer would have been;)

your post proves my point....thanks:grin:

And your posts prove my point, you can't do the job, yet feel you're qualified to criticize the jobs being done, how funny. So American made anymore, just get the job done as fast as possible, so we can meet the time frame we won the job bid with, and if things aren't done right, we can always come back and correct what's wrong...and get paid again!!!

I don't need second chances to get things right the first time!!!

Are you sure about the second chance remark?

His point seems to be don't tell someone you will have it done in May when you know it won't be done till december. Also if your going to be late man up and inform the customer that you've fallen behind and give them a new realistic time frame. It's not always about how long it takes, it's about being honest about the time frame from the get go and if it changes the customer needs to be informed and possibly given options. If someone tells me they are going to have my item or service finished by a certain date and it's not I would expect a phone call before the finish date with an explanation of why it's late and when the new finish date is.... Pretty plain and simple....

exactly.

if he was to tell me it would take 6 months and it actually took 7 months i would see no problem.

when he tells me 6 months and a year later no work is done and he is not returning my calls or if he does answer is refusing to send my deposit back....major problem.

Wow, I guess since none of you have been, nor ever will be, a customer of mine, you all assume I don't keep in contact with my customers....ok, keep thinking that;)

I tasked you and Allen Brown with solving the AZB member looking for help in Seattle, yet just as I figured already, neither one of you have one word of advice to give that member because you both March to the beat of your own drums, and are fast to criticize anyone who don't March 5 the same beat. Yet, when asked for help, you both fail miserably because your mouths can't fix the members problem, it takes hands on training, of which neither of you know shit when it comes to this line of work, but that don't stop you from looking down upon me....for not marching once again, to the beat of YOUR drums!!
HELP THE AZB MEMBER OUT WHO IS ASKING FOR HELP IN THE TALK TO A MECHANIC FORUM! !!!

This thread is a joke and most posters, especially the OP should be embarrassed. Attacking people because of poor business policies and or ethics when those leading the attack are acting withut direct experience or hearsay. Think about this for a minute please. That in itself is unethical. It is the responsinility of those who have direct experience to speak up, yay or nay...the players not the fans.

It is very apparent that the majority of this group lacks business acumen. You can not recomend someone to another unless you are sure that person can execute. Recomending someone who is questionable not only is a reflection on you, but makes you part of the problem,

Unless you know for sure, and this means know other than just reading it here, it is hearsay.

you tasked me ?

let me clue you in on something.

in the 4 years i have been on this forum i have never entered the talk to a mechinic section. i have never had a reason nor a desire to enter that forum. i have never had a reason to ask for advice or give advice in that forum.

i have never questioned your expertise in your field nor have i ever claimed to know anything about repairing tables.

answer me this.. should my lack of knowledge on repairing tables ...or building cues for that matter exclude me from having an opinion of some one failing .....for what ever reason ... to complete their work in the agreed upon time ?

It came from RKC's keyboard Phil. It's nowhere close to hearsay.

That depends, did I let you down on the work you hired me to do? Did I send you a text msg, asking you to explain to my waiting list of customers that my son was just killed in a car accident and that I'd develop an I don't give a shit attitude about nothing, and don't know off hand how long it'll last, so please explain that for me buddy...to my customers.
Or how about the time when I said I'd be done painting a customers GC outside in the parking lot because there was no where inside to paint the table...in a week, but then it started raining, and didn't quit for THREE WEEKS! It's really sad that you can only imagine what I go through to get the jobs done that I take on, and have been doing....for the last 32+ years.

Funny, I don't see a response from you anywhere trying to help out the person in Seattle seeking help or advice....why is that?

Would you like me to tell him to not let you leave with any of his stuff for the table and to not pay you up front? Is that the kind of help you want me to give him?

You missed the entire point. He should not help him because he can not do it and in his opinion the mechanics in the area are not qualified. He can not recomend someone who he does not think is qualified. A business or businessman, has no obligation to engage in practices that are not directly profitable for his business.

I am done with this thread as it should be rethought by the posters.
