Cue weight change

I recently got a high end cue and I love it but the weight distribution is very different from my old cue. The new cue has much more weight throughout the whole butt. My concern is that if I have the cue maker take out the weight bolt it will make the butt more front weighted. I will also be buying a low deflection shaft for the cue and they weigh less than the traditional maple shaft it currently uses so I am afraid that the weight distribution will be very off.

Is it an irregular request to ask a cue maker to remove some of the weight from the butt near the joint as well as remove the weight bolt? Is this even possible?

It would be allot easier for the cue maker know where you want the balance point and weight of the cue.
I like my cue balanced 22 inches or about 1.5 inches above the wrap measuring from the rubber bumper .
And I like a cue to weight 18 and one half of a ounces to 20 and half ounces.


My cue are bored and threaded inside of them and the weight bolt can be moved to adjust balance point if the customer doesn't like it.

zpele......you should also take this thread to the cue-maker section.......I don't need any details about your cue other than you stated it's a high end cue.........so try to have the original cue-maker do any work on your cue........if deceased or retired, be very selective whom you choose to do any work.......Since it's a high end cue, you want to protect any of your cue's intrinsic value that's best accomplished when the cue remains in original condition. If any alterations are made, try to protect your investment by having the original cue-maker do it. Maybe that's not possible for reasons other than what I previously mentioned. If that's the situation, then I'd only mess with changing any weight bolt. If you still don't achieve what you want after switching bolts, maybe it's time to dump the cue and get another version you prefer.

The front end of the butt can be lightened by replacing a heavy joint pin with a lighter one. For example, if the pin is steel, you might be able to have it replaced with titanium, aluminum, or G-10.

But before doing something like that, I'd suggest you experiment a bit first. Some combination of the lighter shaft you mentioned and a lightened (or removed) weight bolt might produce a weight and balance that suits you just fine.
