I'm So Glad....

To me -- he looks like the best U.S. player and it doesn't even look close.

He has great rhythm at the table.

He has a nice smooth cueing action.

He has the belief in his game.

Of course he = Justin Bergman

Through 3 days of the Mosconi Cup, Bergman has hit 11 break shots. Ten of them were successful (made at least one ball and did not foul). Seven of them (64%) resulted in break-and-run games.

Pretty good (so far).

Of the USA players, Justin and Skyler have both impressed the hell out of me. Despite the pressure and the noise, they're really keeping their cool...

Hey remember when a lot of ignorant people said we shouldn't go young.

That the young guys wouldn't be able to handle the pressure, and would fold like a wet playing card?

I'm all for Europe but I definitely agree with everything you said. Impressive player and if he manages to keep it going at this rate, I even dare to predict the days of SVB's dominance at the States are counted. His shooting and positional play are superior and his composure better. Great poker face too. His display against Appleton yesterday was world class, he could beat him all night long and quite comfortably. Though it must be said, Appleton is not what it used to be. It's almost 2 years that he's struggling to find form.

Just because the young players are performing well does not mean that that was a certainty & does not mean the 5 man team should all be 22 years young or less.

They both could play terrible next time. They really do not have a ton of pressure on them because of high expectations... other than maybe perhaps from themselves & that is certainly a good thing.

They're playing fast & loose but not stupidly so. Maybe some of the others should take note.

It also does not mean that those that had concerns regarding youth & a lack of experience were or are "IGNORANT".

That said, I would certainly take Bergman or Woodward on my team over a some other supposedly better players.

Fast Eddie was a 'loser' until he was forced to develop 'character'. Character is what is deep down inside an individual & makes one what they really are. Like Burt said, 'Talent alone is not enough'

Perhaps Mark Wilson's experience with young players has something to do with how the young guys ultimately performed so well. Perhaps with a different Captain they may not have fared so well.

Anyway... Go USA!

Best Wishes 2 ALL.

PS Sometimes Winning becomes simply as much about not losing as anything else. I've seen one individual basically lose 3 points by basically 'giving' those points to Europe.

You can count me -- and maybe you were -- among those ignorant people who were and still are opposed to "going young", but that's with a caveat. The caveat is -- I don't like "going young" just for the sake of "going young." Let nature take its course and the young players will find their way onto the team when they earn their place.

Plus who are we considering as young players? There's really only one young player on this year's team -- Skyler, and really he's not even all that young by sporting standards. It's more of a statement of how sad the U.S. professional pool scene is at the moment that we have to consider a 22 year old as young, when the likes of Strickland, Archer, Sigel, Varner, Mizerack, etc., were competing at a very high level by this age. All the other players on the team are clearly not young by any reasonable standard. So I suppose the argument needs to be one of eliminating players that are beyond a certain age and I'm clearly not in favor of that.

Of course, I don't have issues accepting the fact I was wrong. I just wasn't too familiar with what Bergman's play was until this MC. I'm impressed with the guy and I definitely see greater potential in him than SVB. He's good news for US pool. Though it has to be said, Feijen ever since he won the Worlds is struggling too, just like Appleton. Boyes on the other hand...

Ive always been against picking the older guys just because their names.

You may have seen this on facebook....

He had to make three trips.

One for his kajones.
One for his heart.
One for his game.

Watch out when his break is working.

Does CoreyDuel all of a sudden look old or what? ChipCompton would rob his no-playin' ass . He actually looks scared up there. Sad to watch.

A nasty way to say it, but I guess we're all wondering what the hell happened to Corey. He's not playing as well as usual, for sure. Hell of a time to get into a slump.
