Jay Helfert

At this point, American fans are willing to complain about anything. I assume the next thread will be about how Europe has better intro music.

Jay, Don't listen to anyone complaining about the job you're doing at MC. It's been the best commentating I've heard for tournaments in years. Your'e like a Boy Scout to me with your honesty. Mitch

Thank you. Your 'tough table' comment confirms my earlier point about just wanting more than kindergarten pool knowledge. How many balls doubled the pocket, Sat there for a second, and then fell? How many balls rubbed the rail and then fell? How many balls hit outside the facing and then fell?

That is not a tough table. That is a loose table generally caused by slippery new cloth.

I have a room full of Diamonds and my Diamonds acted just like the Mosconi table when they were new but now, after the cloth wears a bit, when you double the pocket or rub the rail the ball will jar up.

Finally, plese take a serious look at what was 'fortunate' and what was skillful.

I watched Corey vs Nick yesterday -- Nick played better overall but Corey got more rolls -- Corey showed lots of heart and won.

Jay pretty much called the match spot on.

One thing about Jay Helfert, which cannot be said about many others in this pool world, is that he is honest. It shines through in everything he does. If you are involved in games of stake when Jay is on one team, whether as a stakehorse, player, tournament director, or promoter, there will be no cheating. Whether it benefits him or not, he speaks the truth. He is a gentleman gambler as well.

This is the same flavor he gives in his commentary. If it was slanted and anti-American, I would be the first one on this forum to give Jay hell. Sadly, Jay speaks the truth when it comes to Shane and the Americans in the Cup.

His wisdom of the game exudes in his words. I have a seasoned ear when it comes to voices on audio, and Jay actually has an excellent voice for commentary. It's the straight truth, as brutal as it is to American ears.

I don't like the way the cup is going but I agree with your assessment of Jay, he's a straight shooter & tells it like it is. Tried to give you a greenie but I have to spread it around first.

LOL! But it's true, the Europeans do seem to be getting the better intro music! USA should come out with "Eye of the Tiger" today! LOL

Keep up the good work Jay, It seems to me you're having to work hard to keep Jerry in check.

Undeserved negative thread here.

Their stupidity about pool far exceeds any bias they are accused of.

Spot on, sir. These old farts just don't understand the modern game and need to let it go. The stupidity of their comments during the match is jaw dropping to say the least. I wouldn't worry about who they're rooting for too much, but the quality of calling what is actually happening on the table is atrocious, good only for lobotomized pool fans.

Perhaps you and Teacherman should just go out and kick some puppies, or yell at kids walking to school, instead of writing this stupid shit on internet forums.......

You both seem to ***** just for the sake of *****ing. You two should hug it out. Really.

He's definitely a commy. So far today the things that have single handily beat America were safety play, missing balls, bad kicks, and bad position play. Europe hasn't made a bad shot with Jay in the booth. When nick was in that safety battle with Corey it was so biased it was sick. He's a terrible commentator for Mosconi.

Please tell me you are being ironic...
No European country have a communist ideology.

All I can figure is that because Jay is from the USA, everyone expects him to praise the USA Team more and actually be less impartial and more of a cheerleader.

With this type of entertainment venue, I wouldn't expect the Billy I type of technical commentary on every shot (although I personally think Billy is the best). This event is trying to appeal to a much wider audience.

Age old tactic. There is no counter to my point on how the table actually played compared to his assessment. So shoot the messenger.

I guess you've never played on a hot table before. It's actually quite hard to make a TV table play tight. If you were hitting balls on that table before the production started, it would play much different than after about 4 hours of having a spotlight on it. Warm cloth and warm balls slide a little more. I wouldn't be harping on the table. That Diamond is playing a hell of a lot tighter than the Brunswick Metros they used to use at the World Championships.

But, you seem to find something to complain about on a post by post basis. Glass totally empty mentality.

Where Europe is beating us consistently is on defensive play. Their kicking and safety play has been far better than USA overall.

That's strange....I've played on hot TV tables before and I found the opposite to be true. The static electricity from the dry heat brings up the nap, thus the table plays slower. The end result was that they grabbed more and slid less.

Implosion noted.

You say it's quite hard to make a TV table play tight....YET THAT IS WHAT THE ANNOUNCER WE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT KEPT SAYING...."the table is tight"..when it was obvious the table was playing loose.

Please keep talking.
