Just noticed this on the Mezz website about "SWS" (Shaft Weight System) that appears to place a small weight bolt into the base of a shaft just passed the end of the threaded section. Seems like an interesting idea for fine-tuning balance:

http://mezzcue.com/en/technology/detail.php?page=pool_sws&game=pool

It's listed as an Innovation under both Pool, Carom and Snooker but I can only see their Snooker SKR series shaft that appears to use it so far. Anyone seen a Mezz Pool shaft that uses this?

Actually Guido Orlandi has been doing that for quite a while.

It makes balancing the cue much easier. Guido's shaft balancing is different from the Mezz bunch.

I'm not familiar with Mr. Orlandi's work. (http://www.guidoorlandicustomcues.com) Is his method alterable after manufacture, or is it permanent? Now I think about it many cue buyers seem to put a premium on heavier shafts as an indication of dense and therefore high-quality wood. Is there anything to stop a disreputable manufacturer embedding weights like this into lower-density wood to increase it's perceived value?

Yes, grab an earth magnet and test if it's loaded with set screws.:grin-square:

I have been using OB1's for five + years and I drill out the joint end and
glue in a 1 oz weight... works really well. It does change the balance, but
it changes to a balance I like.

Guido Orlandi's weighted shafts (adjustable) are a great design. His Pool Cue Butts carry the same design. Guido does make one size fits all Cues, but he can make these special cues too.

Once the wood is selected for the cue, obtaining the desired "total weight & balance" is the next step.

Adding up Guido's new style joint, in a custom weighted cue & his LD balanced shafts, makes for a real Magic Wand.

Once I received my Guido Orlandi Cue, all my other cues have been sold (Black, Ingram, Pechauer, custom shop Huebler & Auerbach.

It's available for order on all Mezz pool shafts. Upcharge is quite steep though,
in the $150 neighbourhood. Cannot be retrofitted to older Mezz shafts.
