Does anybody know what are the tip sizes used in Australia?

I am about to send a cue to friend of mine as a present, however, I found out that they use smaller balls and smaller tip sizes.
it is for bar league and not for snooker.

Will 12.5mm work or should be smaller?

If they are using snooker size balls, 11 mm would be maximum.
However, they do have pool tables there also....better check.

If they are playing English black ball, a 9 mm would be normal.

You really need to find out

I don't know if this helps, but I use an OB shaft for snooker and it is around 12.3mm (i think). My high runs are only in the 30's, so take it with a grain of salt, but LD shafts on a snooker table work for me. If the shaft you're sending is LD, a slightly "larger than normal" tip size is playable. If it's a regular maple shaft with a standard 1 inch ferrule, it will throw those small balls all over the place.

It also depends on if the recipient in Australia is really serious about the game and equipment. If they are just using it to bang around with at the pub, it might not matter.

hi

They told me that pool table looks almost the same as 9' american one, however, balls are a bit smaller.

So OB 2+ shaft should work fine (11.75mm)?

thats what she said

Dated a gal from down under and she said all those boys down under have small balls:thumbup:

I use the OB Pro + with 11.75 tip on pool tables in Sydney, Philippines and Thailand. Some pool places in Sydney use the English 2 inch compared to the 2 1/4 American balls. All good, if the tip is maintained. 10mm is good but I like to mix and match my pool & snooker with the same player.

Go 10mm. Nice size for that sort of thing 9mm can a little wild for some.

+1, normally 9mm for english pool balls but if your friend is using an american 9-ball cue then that would be too small.

Just to re-iterate what's been said already, English Pool players use a much smaller tip than any other game! Typically 8.5mm to 9.5mm, with snooker tips tending to be 9mm to 10mm, it's unlikely anyone who plays at least semi-seriously would venture outside those dimensions.
