I recently acquired a Mac Attack that was advertised as ebony. Much to my surprise it's Brazilian rosewood. I assume it's an older cue as it's a 57-incher and the bumper looks well aged.

My question is about the joint: it looks like ivory. Is there a nondestructive way to test it? Did Bill use ivory on any of the sneakies?

I'll add pics as soon as I can.
 
Study the grains under UV light I heard. But for me that method didn't help much.

Bill did occasionally make a cue with an Ivory joint but not that often and usually would be an upper end cue. The most likely material you have is ivorine which he liked, You can use a magnifier, jeweler's loupe works very well and check. Ivorine has a pattern kinda like a checker board or graph paper and Ivory has a grain that runs along the piece from front to back.

Here are a couple images of the grain. I'd swear this is ivory, but that doesn't mean I'm right. I tried to manipulate the images a bit to bump up the contrast. I'm not sure if I helped or hurt them....

Based on the pictures my guess would be Ivory too. It doesn't look at all like ivorine. What about the butt cap how does it look. I have one he made for me with an Ivory butt and was to have an Ivory joint but I like Stainless better and asked him to do it instead.
 
This one is 5/16x14 piloted and the ivory is sleeved over something that looks black. I'll check the butt cap, but I don't believe it is ivory.
I tried to photograph the Brazilian rosewood, but it is so dark it's seems impossible to do it justice.

Are you sure it's not cocobola? Bill was really fond of cocobola for the Mac Attacks. And most of them were with a 5/16x14 pin. He did use a big pin some, kinda like a Southwest but made from surgical stainless.

Mike Bender IDed the wood but I didn't have him look at the joint.

I have been a Big Fan of Bill's cues for a long time and have owned a few over the years. From my Experience and based on what I have seen and owned your Cue has a Ivory joint for sure. The Black ring insert is phenolic and Bill used it to cushion and give the Ivory more stability.
To my knowledge Bill's Mac Attack
Sneaky Pete's were mostly Ivorine
With a few made with Stainless joints.
I think the few with Ivory joints are
Pretty rare as I have only seen a few.
I have looked for one of his Sneakies
Like yours on and off for years but they
Don't become available to often.

Not the best lighting but this may help some, after looking at it close though now im not 100% sure about mine...lol. I would advertise mine as not ivory so im pretty certain.

I spent a couple of days with Bill at the DCC and we talked about your cue, he agreed it was Ivory but he doubted the Rosewood, he said it was most likely Cocobola
 
Do a Google search for Schreger lines, pretty much the only
really distinctive figure ivory has. In your case you would need
to look at the joint face and hope it's clean enough that you
can (or can't) see those 115-120° angles you're looking for.
