Any GOOD Commentators?

Just my 2 cents...

I personally enjoy Jim Wych in the booth over anyone. Just my opinion.

Billy Incardona also blends top notch insight and some story time mixed in.

Ken Schuman does a pretty good job and sounds good on the mic as well.

I loved John Schmidt's commentary during the Earl-Shane TAR match on the 10-foot. Can I also throw Tony Robles' name out there?

Sidenote: Accu-stats player reviews. I've only seen the one with Efren vs. Scott Frost, and it was one of the best learning experiences I've had. Any other suggestions?

I have Read Mostly How Bad One guy is... How Annoying another is... and How Old and Outdated another one is....

But!!

Who's your favorite?

Lets be Positive People..

Lets face it..there are not a lot of really good, qualified pool commentators.. Strictly because it takes a really good player to highlight all the finer points of any particular shot, or game situation! There is no shortage of great players, but very few who are good at expressing themselves. Obviously, guys like Billy I, JJ, Jim Wyche and Buddy Hall (and very few others) are the exception.

I usually enjoy any match that JoeyA (Augazin) presides over.. He is knowledgable, and has a has a very good, clear speaking voice..He also encourages his co-commentator (usually a pro) to add to the conversation. War stories, and a little humor, are great fillers during the dead spots, but for myself, I prefer being kept abreast of the score, ball, and game count. Too many people tend to drift away from that!..And yes, way too many good player's, are mike hogs, who only want to show how much they know, and get carried away with their own view points, and launch into arguments with each other..This, to me, is a reason to hit the mute button, and just enjoy the game I'm watching! :o

PS..And also, as many have noted..some, (like myself) are way past their expiration date, thats why they're not in the box playing.. Sometimes that frustration rears its ugly head! :sorry:

I think there are hand-full of names in this thread of guys who can still play at high level that are good behind the mike (JJ, Mr. 400, Frosty, and The Pearl). I'm sure there are more if there was any incentive to be behind the microphone (show me the money!!!).

I have loved Jeremy Jones behind the mike on streams I've watched. I have laughed my ass off when Scott Frost and Billy Incardona were paired behind the mike as Scott goes off on Billy. I've even laughed crazily when Allison Fisher was behind the mike for women's event.

Pair some of these knowledgeable people with quiet straight man and we'll have more "professional" announcing teams. But is there enough incentive($$$$) in this area???

P.S. no to Ken Shuman and JoeyA behind the mike, but that's just my opinion.

Ken breathing too close and chewing I get but Joey A, blasphemy!

Earl and buddy hall for me.

Buddy has probably the best combination of humor and pool smarts of them all!..Earl sure has the foresight and knowledge all right, but too much of his unbearable personality comes seeping through..Ruins it for me!

PS..Speaking of the 'mute button', Danny D gets it from me every time!..Oh wait, the OP wanted only positive input..OK, Danny was an 'A+' pool player!..(but he's always been a 'C-' in the booth) :p

Billy Incardona is the best. After that I like Mark Wilson. There is couple okayish more but those I like most.

As you know, "professional" means ppl are paid to do it and they do it as an occupation. And, Pool being what Pool is, it's more like open mic karaeoke commentating, lol.

One commentator that wasn't mentioned was Jerry Forsythe. I've always enjoyed his work.

Eric

Billy (Pool genius)
Grady (He was very informative!)
John Schmidt (Hilarious)
Shawn Putnam (Also very informative!)

For the non pros:

Jerry Forsythe

I also always thought that JCIN and Big Nasty were both good on the mic. Ken is also very informative.

Nick Varner, he stays on point has a ton of knowledge and is very personable, too bad he's not in the booth more these days.
