I'm a Gold Memeber on AZB. For the month of January. my name along with others was selected to win products from OB Cues.
No, I didn't win a new cue.

However I did win a new OB cue shaft. I was allowed to choose from any of the new shafts that OB manufactures.

After a whole lot of thought and time researching OB cue shafts I selected the OB-1+ (Plus). I gave OB Cues the model number of my McDermott G-206 so that they could match the OB shaft to my cue. I also requested that the new shaft have a Black Kamui Medium Clear tip installed. I let them know that I would not have any problems paying for the tip upgrade.

The new shaft arrived a few days ago complete with an upgraded tip.
Shane Sinnott, President of OB Cues, told me that there would be no charge for the tip upgrade. That was way cool. :)

I have never played with a high performance cue shaft, always played with whatever shaft came with the cue.

All I can say is, there is a night and day difference when it comes to the McDermott "G" core shaft and the OB-1+. The OB-1+ hit has a very, very soft feeling in my grip hand. No deflection that I have been able to see. I've hit almost a thousand balls with the new shaft and really like it, still getting use to the way the shaft responds. It's a different hit.

You may want to go to OB Cues website and check out the new shafts they have available. They are worth the money.

Talk to you all later. Meanwhile, back to the table. :)

Edit:
Now that I've had a few days to think about the construction of the OB-1+ cue shaft, it reminds me of the evolution of golf club shafts of yesteryear and the club shafts of today.

In the beginning golf shafts were made of wood, then came steel and then graphite.
I think that cue shafts are experiencing the same evolution. OB Cues has taken cue shaft construction to the next level.

The OB-1+ gives the player a ton of feed back. My experience so far is that less effort is required to send the QB where you want it to go.

So now I have to relearn how to hit a QB using the latest technology in cue shaft construction. Feels good, just need to slow it down a little.

Just some thoughts.

Many thanks to AZB and OB Cues.

John

That is very cool that you are enjoying your February prize. Thank you for sharing the review. This is a good way to disseminate the latest in products and technology. It's a win-win all the way around. Congratulations! :)

Gold Winner

I was also a gold shaft winner and decided to try the OB classic +1 .First id like to say how impressed i was with their customer service. I at 69 dont like change ,and am not going to put a different shaft on my Runde or R- model Schon. But i put that OBon and old banger and played two tourn. this weekend and was very surprised.12.75 is what i play with so that was easier and the hit was not stiff but very solid. Missed a couple long very thin cuts due to playing a little squirt that wasnt there.Going to start my grandson right out on this from the beginning ,he will never know deflection.THANKS again AZ and OB.

Thought it was January that you won! Grats. Have they announced February giveaway?

Yeah, it's the January drawing, we were notified in Feb. Congrats to my fellow winners!

I won the OB-160 cue and posted pics in the giveaway announcement thread.

Going to 9-ball league here in a bit and will be showing it off and possibly playing with it. I've been practicing with it at home and it hits really well, requiring little adjustment over my Jacoby other than I have to recalibrate my draw because it seems to draw better.

Thanks for posting the pics and glad to hear you are enjoying the OB-160 Spectre!

Congrat's to OB winners and thanks for follow-up. Nice shaft analogy with golf / pool cue shafts. Most are always looking for that 'edge' and manufacturers to increase bottom line.

Don't forget about the 'Aluminum' golf shaft experiment back in early 70's. I bought a set of new PGA's with Aluminum shafts with my paper route/ golf course range money and pro shop credit.

Aluminum shafts had launched when I was about 13. I was on top of the world and envy of my 'steel' playing friends. They felt weird since they were so light but I looked cool. They did not stay in my bag for long, returning back to my Hogan Apex steel shafted blades which felt like butter and were played for years.

Kind have been the same to me with various the LD's I have tried vs my Maple. I have tried various LD's and always returned to my old school maple. I do have the itch to try an LD once again. Maybe the OB Classic +1 would be a nice one to try.

Best rolls and thanks to OB,

-Kat,
