I have switched all the Predator Shafts I have over the the Kamui SS Black tips. After playing with them for about a month, I have notice I don't get as much draw and sometimes the cue ball will now jump off the table on extreme low.

I use the Kamui tip tool on it and never sand them, they look glazed a bit and don't hold chalk as well.

I know it is the tips, since I go back to my Muecci stick that has elkmaster tip on it and get great low action.

Has anyone else had issues with Kamui tips doing this?

I have a Kamui SS Black on my OB Classic shaft.

When it was first on, it was so soft that its seemed like it was sticking to the CB.

Someone here suggested taking a couple of layers off at a time until it got like I liked it. I did & it has played fine.

It does tend to 'glaze' over as the layer can get thin from wear.

I use a tip prik to lightly prik it before a session & I have no problems.

I know some say don't prik a layered tip but I am doing it lightly & have had no problems.

I also played Elk Masters before going to Kamui & G2 tips.

I don't think I like the G2 that much as I find it inconsistent... & I don't really know why. I am thinking about putting an Elk Master on that shaft soon.

Good Luck with what ever you do.

Rick

Yes Sir... it cost me $45 & two matches. It wasn't on my cue 30 minutes. Felt like an old hard leather tip that had been wet & dry several times, over several years. No more Kamui for me, I cut it off with my pocket knife.. I was really angry.

Kind of sux to pay $45 for a tip and installation only to find that the .50 elkmaster that I installed on my Muecci plays better.....

I've had that happen with a Kamui too. Always seemed to be having to ***** and rough it up.Nothing wrong with a good 'ol elkmaster if you like a soft tip.

If you like a harder tip you might want to try Pooldawgs Milkduds. I'm really liking them.

Yes, it's because they suck. They really do suck and will cost you matches, money, pride, and waste years of practice.

I don't how much it might matter, but no one down here where it is humid that I know of is having any problems with the black which is supposed to be for more humid climates & the brown for drier climates.

Just a thought.

Also, weren't there some counterfits at one time?

I can see climate, I live in Texas, but these are not counterfit. Got one put on by pooldawg.com and the other by a local billiards shop - A-Tex Billiards.

Is it dry where you are, Tony?

I'd try the tip prik for a while before I'd pull them off.

Good Luck.

I have one on my Predator FAT shaft and I had to cut it down to about half-length before it ever played right.

The one that I put my other maple shaft never played right and I took it off and put another brand tip on that shaft.

Same exact experience as you describe. This was on an OB1+.

Cue ball would jump with low english, tip mushroomed and glazed over frequently.

Used the tip pick, Kamui tip tool, still no love.

Ordered an OB Classic+ a few months ago with the Zan Premium soft, and it is ABSOLUTELY the best tip I have ever played with, bar none.

Have an ebony Schmelke custom coming in about 5-6 weeks, and chose the Elkmaster soft for that shaft over the available Kamui when ordering. Will go with the Zan Premium soft if the Elkmaster is not to my liking.

I'm through with Kamui. Although, I do use and like their glove.

I was a salesman for a relatively new company once & the product was great. But... as I & others increased the sales quality of production started to fall off & that is really an issue for an honest salesman.

You guys have me worried for when it comes time to change any of my two Kamui tips.

I guess I will be going back the Elk Masters myself.

Best 2 All.

I've been shooting with the kamui black ss since it first launched. Love it. Keeps it's shape, plays harder then super soft imo, more medium, but I like it that way.

I think it's perect and haven't had a bad one yet. I did have a bad kamui black clear though... never went back to them.

Glazed Tips

I had the same experience with Kamui tips. They came on the Players HXT I bought so I figured I'd try out the fancy new technology. It seemed like I was constantly grinding/poking at the tip to stop it from glazing over. When it wasn't glazed it played well, but I went to the milkduds sold by a forum member here and haven't looked back.

I also had kamui black ss tips glaze over on me. For as much money as they charge, these things should be perfect. I switched to Ultraskin mediums and have been using them for three years now. Excellent layered tip and for under $3 a pop, sure beats kamui to hell. I can't fathom how kamui charges what they do, but I guess that their marketing department does a good job.

it seems to me everyone having problems is using the super soft. I have used the black soft medium and hard and never had a problem. I mostly stay with the soft black I have learned the a good shape up once in a while and the gator tool each day you play makes all the difference.

The 2nd thing Im noticing especially on small dia shafts like the Z2 11.75mm the tips are left really thick I think the price tag has influenced a change if you look at the stock tip on a Z2 it is half as thick as what people are putting on to replace them.
