I think you would have to provide which cuemaker because "reputable cuemaker" would include quite a wide range of makers and pricing.

You can certainly get a great quality 4p/4v hoppe custom for in the $6-800 range on the lower side.

Definitely will vary a lot depending upon maker. I think $1000-1500 is pretty typical for a simple cue from a well regarded but not top tier maker (talking pricing/popularity tiers here....not quality). You can easily find some below and above that price.
