I just noticed this today. I hope many top pros still go to Vegas because I'm planning on going this year to watch the 8 ball. I wonder how many guys are planning on playing in the World 9 ball

CSI did change the dates to avoid the overlap. I believe it overlaps now with only the qualifier in Qatar, and I don't think any Americans do that anyway. Here's the link to CSI's press release announcing the date change.

For the future of pool, I would hope all Americans go to the World 9 Ball instead of a bar table tournament.

World 9 Ball won't start until 7/29. There is no overlap after they changed their dates.

That's nice to hear. Thanks for the update

for a tournament, where expenses are the same as 4th or 5th place money, id hope most people had enough financial sense to just go to the tourney in the US where travel expenses are substantially smaller.

there were only 3 or 4 us players at world 9 ball last year, i wouldnt expect it would matter terribly much if the events overlapped.

I'm a fan of several US players, but I also like to see players from all over the world as well. As stated earlier by some other people in this thread though, it seems like it isn't going to matter as the two tournaments apparently don't really overlap.

How is this going to benefit the future of pool??

Anytime a player from the US does remotely well in an overseas event against the best competition in the world it makes them a little more relevant. Right now the US is barely a blip on the map.

Win a tournament at home on kiddie tables? Who cares?

Does anyone seriously need to explain to you that the "World Championships" of pool having proper "World" participation is better for the exposure and potential future of pool than having many of the top players from the USA skipping the event?

As terrible as the viewership of pool already is the interest in the sport "does" go down even more when the premier events are not supported and get only partial fields. 2000 viewers of the stream and plenty of AZB discussion is better than 500 viewers of the stream and a thread with 22 replies on the third page on the last day during the finals.

Like it or not the World 9-ball Championships ARE one of the most important, viewed, and discussed events in pool. It might not be huge, but it is one of the biggest we currently have.

I also prefer a 9' table...for tournaments and for playing on. Still, I'll watch a bar table tourney...because of the bar table size, one finds it easier to make shots. There are no long shots on a bar table. But you'd better improve your control of whitey or you'll be more likely to hook yourself.

I've also noticed that the top pros tend to wind up on top no matter what the table size is.

Glad to hear there's no longer a date conflict....

I would consider this a good answer to my question, thank you.

This also may be a good answer to my question if it did not contain the sarcasm. I asked a simple question, I was not questioning the merits of anyones comments.

Unless the win at home on kiddie tables is by SVB. Then it further proves he is the best player in the world. Who cares about the World Nine Ball anyway?

I noticed that many top names haven't signed up for the 10 ball and 8 ball in Vegas. Are they planning on signing up in the next few weeks or are many of them not going to show up?
