A cue is a tool, once you start buying all these different cues you may seem to forget that. Find the tool that does it's function, that you like the feel off. The rest is not that important. Cue collecting is a different world altogether. I've tried many top production cues and some well known cue makers cues. They all feel different. However, I feel your playing 85% shaft 15% butt. Find a shaft you like, then the joint you like, then the in hand feel you like is the way I would go about it.
So many people buy a top end custom then smack a ld shaft on it. Ld shafts are engineered to be a certain way which like it or not delivers an expected amount of consistency acorss shafts. I've tried these old growth shafts, blah blah wood shaft, honestly they hit great but I'd rather just buy some LD shaft that I can replace with a consistent feel each time. Find a cue you like and just stick with it. Pool is about being as consistent as possible from equipment to yourself. It's fun to have nice looking cues but to the play the game, find a tool and stick with it.
