I am looking into getting a Harbor Freight 7 x 12" mini metal lathe. Would anyone have any suggestions as to a proper quick change tool post compatible with that machine?
My thanks for any tips.

It might take a while to find one,but the A2Z CNC one that used to sell on eBay from Tim Goldstein was an excellent product,as long as you didn't want to knurl with it,they never made a knurling holder for it.

There is a steel-based one available from Little Machine Shop that is also quite nice,in fact it's probably the best available, but not cheap in the 150.00 range.

There was also a well-made copy for sale on here recently too. Tommy D.

That would be the 0XA tool post.
Little machine shop and Shars sells them.

I really like the Italian type as to the wedge type. I have the smaller units on all my lathes and have them set so that any tool from any machine is the same centre height.
I find them to be very repeatable, but like anything else, the surfaces need to be very clean. Mine is the Dickson and another brand, but they all interchange. I have the S00 http://www.lathes.co.uk/latheparts/page13.html I am sure they or something similar is available in the USA. With my setup, I made a delrin bush that is a snug fit on the centre post and the inner register of the Holder body. So when I undo and want to rotate the block around, it has some resistance, and stays on centre. It is also a lot easier to set to different angles etc. It also has less inclination to move when secured in place as well. It is really handy to have lots of holders with the most common tools already set up. It really does save a lot of setup time and mucking around which ever unit you decide to go with.

A2Z CNC is not simply an eBay seller, they have a brick and mortar here in south Denver and are alive and well. Here's a link to their website:

Their QCTP's are well made and not too expensive.
