Recent Purchase - Le Pro Tips

Just wanted to share. I received a box of 50 Le Pros from Nielsen Billiards off of eBay (JoeRackEm). This is the first box I've purchased in a while. The last box of LePros I got, half of them went into the bin. Not so this time. So far, every tip I've checked is good. That is, they've passed the first two stages of standard tip testing!

I don't think many people on here will understand how shocking that is.

I used those all the time many, many moons ago - until they got to where you couldn't trust them. I'm surprised you've hung with giving them a chance this long. Hopefully this batch will let you recoup some of what you've lost to inconsistent quality along the way.
They were about as good as a single layer tip could be at one time.

Somehow tips made from the belly area leather were not included. Either dumb luck or a manufacturing quality improvement.

My last box from Atlas was also 100% keepers. I thought it was a fluke but maybe it's a trend!

Holy crap, really? What size are you guys buying? I would love it if Le Pros got consistent again. I like my UltraSkins, but only because it reminds me of a nice Le Pro. I miss just having a simple piece of leather up there.

Le Pro tips have definitely gone up in quality in the last year or two.
No question about it.
Sure there may be some dogs in between but they are rare and far between.
They've come a full circle.
Good for them. A good Le Pro is one of the best tips out there.

" I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM...15MM has always been great consistent quality

Ive recently had a similar experience.

The previous box of 14 mm lepro we got......even height, uniform hardness....shocking. This newer batch...more like im used too.......no 2 tips are the same.......tall,short,uneven...unlevel....garbage.

On the flip side ,the previous triangles i got.....terrible. ...uneven/unlevel cuts .....part dryrotted....house cue tips. ...this new box tho.....all even thickness, little shorter and harder, even. Go on like there supposed too.

Single layer tips .........pick your poison...

Freddie,
When you check those tips. Are you testing for hardness and dimensional consistency? If you are testing the hardness, are you using a durometer or some other device?

One of the best tip I ever had was a Le Pro but have never been able to have another one like that.

Here are the tips that I have tried:

Triangle (my first ones were great but now I find them way too hard)
Triangle dipped in coffee cream and then pressed ( had some luck, they are softer than regular triangles but dry up very quick)
Milk duds (took it off after 3 hits, too hard)
Outsville ( took it off after 3 hits as well, hard as a rock)
Sniper (glossed to quickly)
Kamui Super Soft (were great but I missed the sound of single layered tips)
Moori Soft (same as kamui)
Le Pro (too hard)
Elk Master (best tip)
Elk Master dipped in coffee cream and then pressed ( same as dipped triangles)

I currently play with regular elk Masters and this is likely going to be the case for the rest of my life unless someone releases a single layered tip softer than elk's. the softer the better

Have you tried milkduds from Az member 'pooldawg8' ? About $3 each & the absolute best tip I've ever used !!!

I may have to get some, really like le pro's when the quality is good. I've gone to mostly playing milk duds from pooldawg8, because they remind me of a good lepro.

why did you want to buy them in the first place????

I just bought a box of 15mm tips. We'll see how it goes. Would be nice if the quality was back.

I tried Elkmaster and havent been able to get myself to use anything else. Makes my cue hit really nice and as it gets beaten in toward the end it plays like Triangle which I've always liked, so whats not to love about an Elkmaster?

I'm replacing a local bar's house cue tips and I exhausted my supply of LePros. I've been asked if I wanted to do other places.

Other posters might buy a box or two if they are true cue mechanics.

Freddie <~~~ not a cue mechanic
