Need Help - City Fighting Pool Hall

They had alcohol in just about every pool Hall I been in. Minors have always had to be accompanied by an adult.

So what happened here?

I think it would be nice if the OP would come back to this thread and at least let us know what happened here.

The owner had the wrong business model. He should have opened family amusement center that had tables in it( among other assorted games, including kids games) then maybe build on a pool shooting clientele from that. Instead, he tried opening a poolroom that served beer......smart. It's a fatal flaw in room owners. They want to attract and appease pool players. That's why rooms tank.

A fun center with kiddie games and no booze has zero chance of success in my part of America. Might be different elsewhere.

Is there a poolroom owners association out there that could help the little guys? The BCA used to help with that, are they still on board?

Good thought, Jeff.
I still got a big book from the '89 BCA trade show...probably dated now, but it had terrific
advice for all stages of opening and running a pool hall.
...attended a seminar by Jerry Breisath also...still remember much of his wisdom.

But the BCA is only as strong as the game is...we've fallen on hard times.

But, I was just told that I have no solutions, just fantasy island....again.....yawn.

I'm guessing that voting this Nov. can fix everything, including this.

Jeff, I love the fact that you post on AZ.
BUT i think you should remember some priorities...
...take care of yourself and treat people that you meet well....
...circles of friends.
And remember..." Love work, loathe mastery over others, and avoid intimacy with the government."

There's been 'deep government' for thousands of years..gotta work around them.

I believe Mike actually had to go to the City, and work with them to get regulations in place, which would allow minors to have access to a limited area of his establishment. I was hoping he would chime in on the process he followed.

You might send a PM to him for some advice.

That's the one, Bob.
Forgot it was by Thomas Shaw....always liked his writing.
How is he?

He's OK. I saw him at the SBE (IIRC).

I won a bet based on Tom's reaction once.
One of his fellow writers is an old friend...we kid each other mercilessly.
She was writing a humorous article for their mag....
...she wanted various opinions on what people thought of her...
....made the mistake of asking me....

I said that she might not be good looking, but she was excellent at locating truffles.
....I had to explain...she said nobody knows what a truffle is.
...told her..."We can bet that Thomas Shaw does."

She called Thomas.....Thomas took a while to tell her 'cause he was so busy laughing.

pt....takes down another prop bet....:happydance:

Thank you very much,

I went camping at Turtle River State Park, a bit west of Grand Forks, back in 2009. It was the end of July and it got really chilly that night. I'm pretty sure it was unseasonably cold, but that doesn't take away from the fact that ND is a frigid. state. There aren't many entertainment options during winter, where the average high temperature stays below freezing for about 4 months. A pool hall won't be the cause for a kid's corruption. If they are corruptible, it will happen, pool hall or not.
