2016 US Open 9 ball/ 9ft (16-22 Oct2016) Norfolk, Virginia (Winner $50K)

Orcollo breaks dry, Ko plays a super safety and Dennis fouls. Chance for Ko to get back in the match.

Mark Wilson keeps saying "China" when he means "Chinese Taipei." China is where Wu Jiaqing now plays. Chinese Taipei is where the Ko's and Keving Chang et al play.

I think he's using "China" as short for "Republic of China," which is Taiwan.

Well not trying to get too political but Chinese Taipei is officially known as Republic of China, so I guess you can still shorthand it to China.

Ko breaks, shot on 1 but no pocket. Plays a nice safety on 1 . Orcollo scratches and Ko runs out for 4-6

Agreed, also like to add Taipei is not a country, it's a city in Taiwan so I don't know why they want to refer themselves as Chinese Taipei in the first place..I think it originated from some sort of team event where the players represented the city of Taipei.

I'm trying to purchase the stream but the paypal link in the purchase process is not working. Do they have a customer service number or someone I can contact?

ROC (Republic of China) works for me....also Taiwan.
...mainland China is PROC.(People's Republic of China)

I don't feel commentators should be careless with these distinctions.....
...I know a few people from Taiwan would die fighting to not join the mainland...
...they say they still respect the traditions of family....
...on the mainland, the government wants to be your family.

respect people's identities....or put down the mic

In this context it refers to Taiwan as a whole. It's the name that China (mainland) prefers to use because it's so ambiguous and doesn't call it Taiwan which would more strongly imply that it's a separate country.

I think Americans should call it Taiwan. I understand if the players themselves from there don't want political trouble and so call it Chinese Taipei, but our policy should be to treat it as if it's a separate country and not cave in to China's wishes.

[/political off]

Taiwan has to use the name "Chinese Taipei" because of pressure from China PRC in that they do not recognize Taiwan ROC as a country.
