There are some pro players that should become an event promoter/organizer.

A controversial pro that was involved in a major promotion was Mike Sigel, via IPT.

Several pros have produced quality events that attract top talent.

The next progression of player evolution is involved in competing with WPA.

However if players created an alternative sanctioning body, should it compete with the WPA? The WPA has limited themselves to events in excess of an added prize fund over 30,000 US, thirty thousand US dollars.

Not compete for the same events, but be more involved in aspects of tournament life. Perhaps provide a better idea of what tournament life on the global scale is like, in a local more cost friendly environment.

Keith McCready comes to mind as a player / promotor that would do a great job at bringing in a lot of fans and great players to tournaments. Just an idea. I wonder what he is up to lately. I hope he is doing well in life. Sorry for the off topic comments. My reply may have not had anything to with what you were asking (in that case, sorry).

Keith is famous enough, but is he interested in that type of work.

Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9 Ball Tour has been around for over ten years. It has attracted most all the top professional players over the years. Mike runs a class event. Every winner gets paid immediately. Everyone is treated equally. There is much more to the tour than the two Turning Stone events each year. Would Mike consider doing a higher dollar pro tour? Ask him!!!

Joss tour is almost 19 years old, Lynn.
I remember playing in it in the late 90s.

Well Paul, compared to me your a spring chicken. You have a memory. Mine, not so good :rolleyes: . Is nineteen more than ten :yikes: ? Or is this just another case of hoser humor :shocked: ?

How do you guys feel about Shane starting a tour towards the end of his career? Not right now cause he seems like he's in his prime. I think he has the money, brains, and work ethic to make it work, also seems business savvy from what I've heard about his real estate investments.

Any new organization will not be able to compete with the WPA if they want the players to stay connected to the Olympic Grid.

Many countries depend on this membership in order to receive substantial funding from their governments or National Olympic Committees to pay for national pool events and for players travel expenses to international events.

However, the USA does not benefit from this membership in that way because of it's laws where sports are not funded by the U.S. Olympic Committee or the U.S. Government.

The WPA is tied into the Olympic grid through it's membership in the World Confederation of Billiard Sports. (WCBS) The WPA is the official world representative for pool in that organization. The WCBS is the official Cue Sports organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

If someone wants to form an International tour or promote international events, they will not be able to do it without WPA approval. Countries do not want to lose their funding.

If you're going to try to compete with the WPA, you will have to wipe them off the map completely and replace them in the WCBS. Some have tried. All have failed.
