The wildcard spots have been announced

Pretty simple ,, higher on money list 21 to 34 higher BCA rank 5 to 32 and higher Fargo 782 to 768 ,,
By every mesuerable standard Morris is the better player
And nobody in thier right mind would ever take Oscar over Morris in a big money set

1

rodney 216 = Equal
Oscar 190 = Egual

Rodney education = NO
Oscar = Degree College

Rodney = previous legal troubles = check
Oscar = previous legal troubles = NO

Rodney = Mosconi Cup issues= Yes
Oscar = Mosconi Cup issues= NO

Based on above
Oscar wins 3 categories
Oscar ties points category in my opinion, being so close!!!

Mark said last year that the best and most fair way to select the team was to take the top 5. Then this year he skips the #5 to take the #6. Makes sense.

I think it would have been different had he picked Archer and Corey.

At least he picked two guys that were in the running, and in his eyes, Bergman and Morris are the two best players that didn't finish in the top 3.

And all this nonsense about Mark only taking Bergman just cause their buddies needs to stop right now. He did pick Morris as well, and I think those two are as far from buddies as you can be.

I honestly knew I wish what sense you were trying to make with this post.

it's obvious that there is a financial component to the CUP and "Nepatism" or helping friends has real ECONOMIC consequences for the victim. Whomever it maybe.

He picked Morris. Who is not his friend.

Got anymore conspiracy theories there?

Why thou???

What metric makes this reasonable???

I am trying to understand???

Given, what I know and the history it is a "Serious" snub. No getting around it!

I was pulling for Oscar after getting to talk to him at the Texas open. He really wanted to make the mosconi cup team, but I'm sure he will be just fine. In my opinion Bergman and Morris give the US the best chance to win.

Who the f--k cares what his education is thier not stopping play and doing a SAT test , irrelevant
Who cares what his legal troubles are we looking for pool players or Saints
Those issues in the MC were not just privy to him ,
Oscars ties nothing with Rodney he will be luckey to accomplish half of what Rodney has
Oh just to add Rodney is also a former MC MVP

Both Morris and Bergman are better than Oscar.

I think that's a pretty good metric.

These things matter to me! It's about "Character" and "who" represents me/us/USA is important to me. You don't have to care or cringe when that stuff surfaces because he may be your friend and you are a fan of his. But, to some people, myself included it matters. It hurts my sense of justice in America when good people follow the straight and narrow lose out on questionable grounds.

Thier is zero questionable grounds , by every measure Rodney is the better player period
He paid his dues we are a society that gives second chances not one that condemns them shame on you for doing such

What is the case or reason for Jumping over Oscar to get to Bergman ? Why didn't Bergman go to Kuwait to play his way to number 5 or even higher? In my opinion He knew already his Buddy Mark was going to pick him. No need to spend the money to go. There is to much History between the Two. Why not go down the list like he did last year? Don't believe one can make a case for Bergman bringing more to the team than Oscar. Especially when you have to skip Oscar to get to Bergman. Oscar gets screwed again .

I'm guessing because Justin plays better than Oscar probably was the deciding factor.

If all this stuff matters, why not Lobby for Wilke?

Not disagreeing with you, just curious

It seems fairly clear that he picked the first three based on points as the system dictates... and then he took the next two BEST players to make the best team possible.

I think it is hard to argue that Oscar (and I really like Oscar and respect his game tremendously) plays as good as Justin or Rodney right now.

These wild card picks are fully justifiable.

Rodney was in fourth place in the points and had a solid year. During his Hall of Fame induction speech, he announced he will retire sometime in 2017, so this will be his final Mosconi Cup.

As I noted in my trip report on the US Open, Justin Bergman showed very solid form at the US Open, narrowly losing to both David Alcaide (Euro tour ranking #3) and Dennis Orcullo. I saw both matches, and if Justin plays the kind of pool he played in those two matches, he'll be a valuable member of Team USA.

No doubt, a case could have been made for Oscar Dominguez and I'm sure Josh Roberts got serious consideration as the hot player of the moment.

Good luck to Team USA.

What has Josh won?

Or maybe Mark just thinks Bergman is the better player since points only matter for the top 3 spots.

But hey, this is AZBilliards. What fun would it be without folks trying to stir the pot?

There's a few posts on this thread that confuse me, all 3 are from the same person.

Bergman is the best player outside te first 3 chose, that's without a doubt.
The last pick is debatable yet I see no issue with Rodney at all.

Why are we talking about education and legal issues? We're talking pool players here, not Astronauts

They're not Astronauts? Well, that changes everything.
