Are you by any chance referring to "Bakelite"? - the first phenolic...

Actually not a phenolic. It was an insulating material. Made pretty good cue balls in the old days. Who knows what this ferrule is, unless we see a picture. Bakelite would be pretty ugly for ferrules by modern standards.

When the OP wrote in the title "Bake lite (sic) phenolic," what else could he possibly be talking about other than Bakelite (aka Baeklite ), which OF COURSE is a phenolic resin???
