Seems like they are using an embedded rack. If the players don't mind it, and it doesn't effect spin, why don't the other big tournaments use them? Looks much more convenient.
 
This type of rack is nothing new

In order for it to hold the balls, it has to have properties that effect the ball.

I dont think it is possible to have a permanent rack that doesnt have a near certain probability of changing a ball's path, eventually.

At least based on current trchnology.

Dont worry thougb, the best and the brightest from academia and business ar hard at work to find the best rack.

They are very convenient. The ill effects are rare but it does happen, in particular on balls moving very slowly or coming to a stop in the rack area.

Compare and contrast that with a magic rack that can be removed from the table, assuming that after the break there are no interfering balls. That happens a lot more often.
