You imply that the short rail is to the right in this picture, but when you say "up and down" that implies to me that the long rail is to the right. If you plan to draw from yellow to red you can remove speed from the cue ball by elevating. I'm pretty sure both Hoppe and Daly discuss this and you see balkline players do it all the time.
One possible option is to play thin from red to yellow and leave yourself closer to yellow. Another is to play soft left draw on the left side of red and play for the double kiss. That takes some practice. Another possibility depending on the exact angle from white to yellow is to drive yellow twice across and back.
But it is a bad idea in general at straight rail to gather the balls exactly in the corner because you are allowed only two shots there.
OK see i don't even know the correct lingo Lol
Yes short rail to the right, by up down I meant shoot into the white and make it go into the rail and bring it back close to the others
I did not even think about elevating the cue, like you have said
I have seen it in balkline, it just didn't come into my head to try that
And 1 can easily be driven out of the corner easily enough
This is not always the rule though, as I seen in a Spanish video, I posted it here of 2 guys running 400 each in their match, and they shot more than 2 in the corner, didn't have the table even marked there
I always see the corner lines though in belgium France etc etc
they are so proficient at it there
And even though the corner rule is there
I wonder how many could actually crotch the balls for hundreds and hundreds of points These days
Seems like a test in mental fortitude to keep your focus over that amount of time doing the mundane task of keeping them there
