9 & 10 Ball break speed?

On a 9' table my break in 9 & 10 Ball is nothing to shout about and on a good day I may hit 20 MPH.

From watching the pro players it appears as though one does not have to have a 25 mph break. A tight rack and hitting the head ball in the right spot as well as clean balls and good cloth are also important.

So with that in mind, how fast does the break shot need to be? If it is not over 22 mph then it seems as though the cue one is most accurate with should be the break cue, and in my case that is one of my 2 Diviney players.

I have a good Diviney break shaft and as nice as it is I don't break any better with it then one of the players he made for me.

I am left with the question, does the average player need a break cue and tip if one does not consistently break over 20 mph?

Ak Guy...In a word, and imo...NO. I've been breaking with my playing cues for 4 decades with no degradation to my cues. My average break speed is 18-20 mph. Controlling the CB is much more important. That's not to say some people have very good results using specified break cues, some with phenolic tips, and some with leather.

It depends on you.

Its all about your comfort level. If using a break cue gives you a better feel, stay with it. The game is tuff enough, anything you can do to give yourself a good mind set, check that box off.

Certainly don't need a 25mph break, but 22-23mph helps more than 19-20mph on a 10b break IMO.

I think its been mentioned and by eye test, Shane's 10b break is 23ish mph.

Most pro's 9b break might be around 18-20mph?
