Well....

It does appear as though moving the 9 Ball to the spot helped Europe win more often.

Wake up USA, move the 9 ball back where it belongs and let Europe work on their break for a few years. Geese.............

Johnny, your 80% figure is a little high. It was made successfully in the opposite side pocket on 37% of the breaks last year. Here's a post of mine from last year:

Regarding 1-balls in the side pocket:

Standard operating procedure in this event was to use a cut break from near one side cushion, trying to make the 1-ball in the side pocket on the other side of the table (and whatever else might go). How successful was this?

43 breaks (30% of all 142 breaks) -- dry or fouled
25 (18%) -- successful, making the 1-ball in the opposite side pocket but no other ball(s)
27 (19%) -- successful, making the 1-ball in the opposite side pocket and one or more other balls
47 (33%) -- successful, making one or more balls, but not the 1-ball in the opposite side pocket

So the 1-ball was made in the opposite side pocket 52 times -- 37% of all 142 breaks and 53% of the 99 successful breaks.
