Would having a new billiard sport based on pre-set shots make it easier for newbies and tourists to learn basic billiard skills?

Instead of just people shooting at whatever, why not have a game with pre-selected shots.

The advantage is players can assess their own progress better. Players can focus on specific shot skills. Less emphasis on luck.

I haven't fleshed it out, but the game would be a cross between "horse" like in basketball and bowling, where the pins have a specific location.

The game would set up a a rail shot, cut shot, draw and follow shots, stun shot and then a cluster to knock for position. The main goal is to runout and even runout in a timed format.

It would make it clear for spectators to understand challenges of each shot, if they are always the same.

Yes as a new game targeted for beginners.

I got the idea from Texas hold em poker, the flop, turn and river.

For billiards it be the cut, draw, follow stun and the cluster break.

To make it more of a game include elements like opponent chooses cue ball position, fouls include failure to pocket designated shot and opponent matches the same shot before moving on to next skill.

Billiards doesn't have a skills event like other major sports. An event of that nature can track overall progress of players as the sport develops.

There maybe a generation of players capable of tmulti rail kicks, banks and kiss shots

has books and videos with drills... Kim Davenport put out a game called Target Pool.

I once played a game where your opponent called your shots ahead. Something like
draw 3 rails off the 1 and pocket the 3 ball in the bottom corner.... WTF. Talk about a
low percentage shot. Some folks have no clue. You did say to target beginners right?

You could get some sort of bonus for making shots too.

Looked into bonus ball and target pool.

I am just talking about having a game where players set up objects balls in specific places, then players try to run out.

There has been an overemphasis for new players on the break, like having a break cue.

I am saying a beginner game should emphasize more common shots, some that require draw, follow, or even position. And I am proposing to take strategy out of the game because for beginners they should focus on just making shots.

It would be great for experienced players to make creative run-outs that have a mix of easy and challenging shots. It would be a better way for seasoned players to get along with beginners.
