Ugly Fact-

Well said.
I think there's a lot of people here who simply hate America and, at the same time they simply DO NOT understand pool... They're just lonely little trolls who know they're going to get a response to their banger-posts and that's what they live for.

Tell Hearn to put up 6 figures, make it (the sets) a race to 13, WINNER BREAKS, on Diamond tables and let's do it all again.

HE (HEARN) HAS ACTION!

None of that makes any sense.

For starters Hearn does already put up 6 figures in TOTAL prize money, plus all the production costs!

Aside from that, if the current format proves who's best in short races, your proposal merely aims to find who's better in medium races...what exactly does that prove?

All pro-level pool players earned and deserve a level of respect - no matter what nation or continent.

They may-as well have fat girls in bikinis mud-wrestling in the backround and get sponsored by the local dive-pub.

These fans don't act like this in their Snooker tournaments because they'll be kicked out on their sorry, classless asses, and our fans never treated them badly when they were in America.

We should just boycott this cartoon-event until they clean up their act and learn what pool-etiquette is.

If we let it continue they're going to start throwing their broken teeth at the players while we're shooting.

Actually finally you raise 1 valid point...in snooker the noise would not be tolerated.

However this isn't snooker.

In the snooker shootout the noise is similar as Barry wants it to be a similar fast paced, made for tv event.

The Mosconi Cup is the jewel in the crown of TV pool and isn't going to change.

That said I do finally agree with you on something in that I do think a small percentage of fans go to far trying to put the players off (most actually don't despite what you may think).

The number ONE problem for my American Pool players in the Mosconi Cup is their inability to fade the crowd.

Even the very young guys whose nerves are still nice and smooth have trouble with the hooligans hooting, hollering, yelping, insulting, sharking, and boisterous singing and chanting. They get under the skin of our players and they under perform.

Those YOU-RUPP HOOLIGANS have got a heck of thing going on over there and even here in America. They've honed their skills and are some of the best distraction artists anywhere on the planet. THAT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE so don't expect it to.

The 9 Ball on the spot and lack of Americans to perfect the cut break, the lack of 9 ball events on 9 foot tables in America, the loose pockets, the short races, and the lack of American players traveling across the planet to compete in International events are all secondary to fading the crowd.

By saying this I'm not discounting Europe's prowess at potting, safety play, breaking ability and kicking ability. They proved they have awesome skills in all of these areas. A little fine-tuning in kicking and safety play by the Americans and the YOU-RUPPS will find the gap closing rather quickly.

Without professional help (sport psychologist(s) and regularly immersing themselves in a similar environment and similar playing conditions my American players will continue to suffer at the Mosconi Cup.

My American professional players just have to learn how to play better in the Mosconi Cup SPECTACLE.

The Mosconi Cup is a GREAT SPECTACLE but it is not a tournament that determines who are the best pool players. It only determines who are the best players under those conditions and for several events now, Europe has had the upper hand.

Americans mental strength and self confidence was admired worldwide for decades - where's that gone?

The Mosconi Cup is not a typical pool tournament.

It is designed the way it is and it is SUCCESSFUL. There isn't a lot that's going to change, especially with the hooligans, chanting and sharking.

If I were Hearn, I sure wouldn't get rid of 2,000 raving fans. Okay 100 raving fans. They make the Mosconi Cup different than any other pool tournament on the planet.

If you want a different format, you should create one, fund it, promote it and make it successful.

It has been beaten up by Europeans who have not only improved their rotational game skills. The rule changes in racking and breaking have helped give an edge to the You-RUPPS as well.

The facts are the Mosconi Cup has unique characteristics and the Americans are just going to have to learn to be better at embracing those idiosyncrasies.

I do like the way the fans clap in appreciation of the European player when he plays 2 or 3 rail shape missing the side pocket scratch by a few inches and getting perfect shape on the next ball.

When the American player does the same thing, and when that cue ball come within a foot of the side pocket scratch, the European fans let us a loud gasp that is hard not to smile at.

It's all good. Americans just have to learn how to play the Mosconi Cup Game.

Joey, you've met me 1 time and we went to a tournament where if I ran out they were gonna kick me out(they actually told me that and you know it), while my opponents could run as many rack as they wanted. That was a truly unfair situation. MC is a total slaughter every year, whether in the US or Europe.

Nothing to do with Americans being left behind, then?

First of all, you are correct.
Snooker fans do not do what these pool fans do in the crowd, but the crowd generally does not call out when a player is down on the shot, they are then warned, if done again they are removed.
The same rules apply during the Mosconi Cup

I've seen things from all fans from/on both sides, so please, stop dogging one or the other.
Fans are fans, drunk fans are drunk fans.
It's part of the reason Mosconi Cup is what it is.

(Must be said like "This is Sparta") This is the Mosconi Cup!

2nd and MOST important-
This is the highest stage America has in terms of honor, viewership, monetary payoff and tour connectivity.
Viewed by over 800,000,000 all over the globe.
Yeah, lets "boycott" that...

We will not have to boycott it.
If we cannot perform or get better, it stops.

So how about you get on board and help sponsor a pro/semi pro, train some? If you were listening and watching, you will now know that Matchroom is doing something about it-they've created a whole new event!

Welcome now, the Europe/Asia Cup!!

I think it's very appropriate that the VIP practice room prior to matches beginning was held in this room, where over the mantle, a relief of the Judgement of Solomon hangs.

Joey -- Do you think the crowds were quieter in the 1990s when the US dominated? That's not my recollection. I think you may have to look somewhere else for the explanation.

It turned to jealousy and hate.

That's what makes "beating us" so orgasmic for them.

In 2002 beating the US was a big deal, also in 2010 and the first win in Vegas.

However now everyone just wants to see a competitive game, European and US fans alike, no-one is jealous of anyone, nor does anyone hate anyone.

Yes there is a small minority in the crowd (as there is at any sporting event) that perhaps take things to far, but the vast majority of fans appreciate good play from either side and will happily share a beer with their opposite numbers after the game!

Very good point, I remember watching on TV and thinking how loud it sounded (which seemed so alien to someone who grew up watching snooker on TV), then I went in person and it really was that loud!!!

Okay,Okay-

I think I need to go and lie down for a moment.

I may have been liberal in applying this number as a strictly Mosconi Cup number and not
prefacing it with-

The viewership for Matchroom Sport programming hours is 800,000,000 world-wide which is shown on Sky Sport, Eurosport, Sun Sport, ESPN (among others)
which includes Mosconi Cup, World Cup of Pool, and World Pool Masters.

Feel better?
