Schmelke Sneaky Pete W/BEM

I had commented on a Schmelke sneaky and said that I'd ordered one with Coco & birdseye maple upgrade and I was asked to post pic's when I got it. I'm fairly satisfied with it. (I prefer Coco with more red than orange) The BEM isn't what I'd call highly figured. You have to get close to notice. I like the wood to wood joint feel, it is very close to a cue I had and unfortunitly traded off some 30 years ago that I wish I still had. Over all I'd say I got my $154 worth, I got it with a 12mm shaft. Here are some pics.

Very nice looking cue. Yeah, not much BEM in the forearm. Is that the best quality BEM they have to offer? I assume it is, but maybe worth a try to give them a call and ask them that question. Hope you do not take offence to my reply. I still think it is a nice looking sneaky, but I just like a much better figured BEM. I love BEM (it is my favorite wood, in cues).

Nice cue. Cocobolo can range from almost black to red to orangish red to red. I had a BCM that had orangish coco. Kinda depends on source. IIRC, Mexican coco tends to be more orange where CostaRican coco runs red to almost black. Lot of cue for the $. I really like mine.

Good looking cue! It wouldn't be very "sneaky" with highly figured BEM. They were just looking out for you so you could still get your hustle on!

Yotehntr,
You have more of a true Sneaky Pete than some others I have seen. But your cue is highly finished and does not at all look like a house cue right off of the house rack. So you're not about to use that cue to sneak up on some banger and take his money!
If you want to use is as such you will have to rough it up a little. Maybe a couple of years worth.

Please show us photos of the joint. I would like to see how well the joint looks both when the cue is screwed together and apart. There are no joint collars on your cue, which is one reason that I said it is more of a SP than some others I have seen that are all dressed up with joint collars and butt caps.

It's a very good looking cue and I think you got a lot for your money. I have a SCHMELKE on order; a PLAIN JANE made of SHEDUA wood. One of SCHMELKE's M-Series cues. I am looking forward to it.

That's exactly what my schmelke premium birdseye looks like. That birdseye on the diveney doesn't look like anything special, Justin.

Really? Nothing special? Well I love the BEM in that diveney . Looks pretty awesome to me. Would love to see a pic of your schmelke . Very cool that they do put such nice BEM in their cues. I did not know.

No offense taken at all bud, I thought the exact same thing. I paid $35 for the BEM upgrade and was hoping for more figure. I also prefer the darker red Coco.

Justin the BEM in that Diveny is very nice. What I was hoping for.

I do feel like I got my money's worth, I like the joint when I get off work I'll take a few pics and post up tomorrow. There's a big difference in the finish though.

I don't see anywhere on the site that they have specific grades of BEM - light figure, high figure - so I'd assume that would have to be requested? It does look like a nice cue and there's some nice, yet not overt, figuring. Don't know if that's worth the upgrade however?

Never seen a sneaky with a lot of eyes in it. To me that looks like a great sneaky, if it wasn't a 12mm shaft I'd offer to buy it from you.

I also do not think the taper in the shaft looks that good. It looks kind of short to me. I like a very long taper in shafts. I heard that their joint is a little thicker then normal, so it will not fit perfectly flush on other production shafts (like an OB shaft or Predator shaft to name a few examples). I do like that Schmelke cues gives you so many custom options. It is nice that you can give them a call, and order your cue to be custom made to your specs. Like if I wanted a 62 inch sneaky (31/31 inch split), with a Bocote butt into Premium BEM, and a black phenolic joint and black phenolic at the end of the butt, then they could probably do that order for me. And if I were to tell them that I like the cue butt to be slimmer then normal, then they could help me with that too. All of that may only cost around $200, but I do not know.

i ordered a blank from them about 10 years ago to have another cuemaker finish. The trick is order 4-5 blanks and pick out the one you like the most out of those and return the others. As far as the OPs cue, looks great and for the money they are hard to beat

Would it not be easier just to have them email you pictures of some of their blanks, and allow you to chose which one you like best? Or is it something you can't chose from with just pictures? They may not offer pictures anyways though.

It hit's well, I played around with it at the house yesterday and will take it to league play tonight. I asked about the BEM upgrade in an email then called to place my order. Highly figured wasn't in the conversation just $35 for BEM upgrade. I have no complaints on it at all. Some of the other sneaky's that were posted were a darker red coco (this is more orange) it's just preference no deal breaker. The tip is one of theirs... I may try one of the SIB's I've seen posted here or put a Moori on (what I have on my other cues)

I ordered mine with a 1.22" butt and David said no problem. I wish i'd gotten a 60"(i'm 6'2" w/long arms) so i think i'm going to get another one. Might keep the 58", might pass it on.
