Update on the Youth Billiards program @ Sullivan Middle School

Right now the cues are the thing needed most. I need seven of them to be able to supply the kids that are actually in the afterschool program. All of the cues we have are pretty bad.

Wouldn't good quality housecues work?

I will absolutely teach them straight pool. I was lucky enough to talk to John Schmidt a few weeks ago and he said he wanted to come by and talk with the kids as well. So they will have a respect for the game a straight pool before he comes out

What you're doing for the sport and for the students is inspiring. Great job!

I've just recently published a Straight Pool scoring app in the Apple App Store - PM me and I can send you a few promo codes for the Pro Edition if you're interested.

Thanks.

Thanks. I really appreciate it. I just checked out your app and think it's great. I have only done the free version so I can only imagine the pro versions is even better.

What kind of cues are you looking for.. maybe post a link or two..
See what J&J has that might work and let me(us) know.

A couple thoughts
Reach out to guys like DaBarbr as experienced guys like that might make great visitors.

Chef Anton is not that far from you and might come put on a show. great guy and does a great show combining pool and magic.

There are a couple guys in SD that I am sure you know that compete in tricks shots. They might donate some time.

Its awesome what you are doing.

Just to verify, are you talking about Frank the Barber? If so, I agree. Won of the most pleasurable matches I ever played was against Frank. As far as the trick shots go, while those guys are good at their craft, I want the kids focusing on their mechanics and improving their game itself. I am not opposed to trick shots, I even have 4 or 5 videos myself on YouTube. I did not realize Chef Anton lived down here. I haven't heard anything about him in a long time. Then again, I don't follow trickshots much.

When it comes to the cues, any of those in the j900 series appear to be fine. As long as the cues are straight with a decent tip and two piece is all I am concerned about. The cues we currently have are screw on tips, crooked, and the linen wraps are coming off.

The kids could absolutely use cases. Whatever you have to protect any donated Cues we get. I also have a very good amount of magazines, and maybe 10 different types of instructional books. The students are allowed to check those out for me at anytime. You can send the donations to Sullivan Middle School in care of after school Pool program. 7350 W Lilac Rd, Bonsall, CA 92003. Anything you were able to donate is greatly appreciated.

Yes Frank the Barber
I will talk with him about if he hasn't already seen this thread. I mentioned trick shots because it seems like kids and beginners really like that stuff and they can be educational at times.
Anton is about 30-40mins away

I saw the cue post and thanks for that information.

Outstanding! I would love to have Frank the barber come in. I truly look at my one match against him as one of my most memorable matches. It is not a match that I won. Quite the contrary, Frank had me down five nothing. I took my bathroom break psyched myself up and came back with a new focus and plan. I really admired the way Frank moved around the table because watching him it was as if I could see the gears turning in his head. Some of the shots and kick she played that match were amazing. He ended up beating me 7-5, but for the first time I was not disappointed in losing a match.

Books we have:
Science of pocket Billards
99 critical shots
Precision pool
Play your best 9 ball
A mind for pool
Along with about 60 issues of pool and billards digest and inside pool

So far we still need:
7 decent pool cues with good tips
8 beds of cloth. Preferably Simonis

We are also in need of monetary donations. We are almost ready to play some tournaments. We want to get uniforms made for the kids. Nice collared shirts so the kids are brought into the sport looking at it as a respectable sport.

We are also hoping to get some of the students to Vegas this year for the BEF Junior Nationals. We are going to start doing car washes to help finance that trip.
