I was told a long time ago that it is better to have a phenolic ring on the joint of a sneaky pete style cue (at least on the shaft part of the joint, so it does not need to be on the butt side), because it makes the joint of the shaft much stronger, so less likely to get snapped apart (while breaking for example). This is just what I was told though. I do not know. I will leave this question to the experts on here.

It just doesn't matter. No need for a ring, but doesn't matter if it has one unless you don't like the looks of it.

Better from what stand point? How the cue plays?

People will argue about it all day, but I believe it is well proven it does not matter.

I've never seen one that split because of a wood to wood joint... anyone have pics of one that split because of the "weaker joint"?
