Japanese pool player Naoyuki Oi gives the most bizarre post-match interview ever

.I got this on my Twitter feed from a non pool playing Chicago journalist...

My daughter doesn't give 2 craps about pool and she sent the clip to me yesterday, said she saw it on Reddit. At least it's some mainstream exposure for our game, that we desperately need.

Your first two half sentences are off topic.

What you bring up next is interesting... essentially what you're saying is act like an idiot, but hey if it goes viral you're doing great. Yes this is all great info for our kids. Show your ass in that bikini and make a sex tape and "go viral". Why has something gone viral is my first question. If the answer is "because he made a total fool of himself" or something like that, well, he "went viral" right? So it must be good! It's ALL about going viral.

Hey, as long as you go viral who cares what you do or how much of an idiot you look like. What a manta.

Nobody drew crowds like tiger. It supposedly wasn't even close. I personally don't think he's very "entertaining", he was just good. I just think your theory breaks down at that. This is all I'm saying... playing super good is essentially enough to get fans crazy about watching.

Very much on topic,, "His play " got him the interview ,you said he shamed his country ,I'm saying that's far from the truth ,,
I'm sorry the guy is funny and pool players around the world love it I've seen it shared several times on FB ,,
If I could only watch one play at a event I'm watching this guy every time ,

You must be fun at a party.

Honestly, I'd be perfectly willing to admit if I'm somehow not sophisticated enough to get him. I just felt it was more of a laughing at him vibe, but you guys didn't so I can appreciate that. I just have this thing nowadays everyone's goal seems to be to "go viral". No matter how stupid or nefarious or ridiculous you have to act, just go viral.

People are just way too caught up in getting attention nowadays for my taste. It's the age of Paris hiltons and kardashians and it just ain't my thing but I guess this is the type of stuff we wanna see as a society.

People think this guy is funny too, and they love him. I actually love it too, I think this is hilarious. I just don't know why being as ridiculous as you possibly can qualifies you for anything other than being an idiot in many of these cases.

But hey, that guys "going viral", "people around the world love him and he's being shared on fb", so he is the man, right? I guess so nowadays. I mean I'm right with you, if I go down to watch skimboarders I'll only go if this guy is there.

If jenette lee won the next major tournament and jumped up on the table and rubbed whipped cream all over her nipples, I'm sure it would go viral and help pool too. I suppose the way you guys phrase things just rubs me wrong. I'm just of a generation that's tries to judge things on their actual merits rather than shock value.

Isn't he the one who donated a year's worth of his winnings to the victims of the Tsunami?

Right on. My non-pool friends regularly send me stuff they come across like this that seeps into the non-pool world. MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE.

We want pool to grow well it's ALSO stuff like this that plants seeds where someone somewhere thinks let's do something with pool who isn't currently in pool.

To give context of the bit towards the end, he is invoking the pen pineapple apple pen fad that has been the hottest thing in Japan in the past year./QUOTE]

Sometimes the Japanese just scare me half to death.
That pen-pineapple video is one of them, it creeps me out big time.

Seriously. English is not that hard and for a person that's active internationally....

Don't worry, us Americans routinely scare the rest of the world half to death too.

That's the thing though. English and Japanese are among the top of languages that are difficult for one another to learn. As someone who is constantly bridging the gap on a daily basis, both on the casual cultural level to occasional symposiums on magnetics with rooms of industry frontrunners, I've rarely ever seen a fluid transfer of information in an unscripted manner.

This instance just happens to feature someone deliberately embracing that and spouting what he can muster.

If he did then as far as I'm concerned he can do any damn thing he wants to in an interview, and I'll be rooting for him in every tournament.

His interview was uploaded to 9GAG viewed 11 million times and had like 80000 comments so far. Been shared 91000 times. Unheard of.
