Thoughts on cue purchase

I will certainly research more into the shmelke as I like to support american small business when possible....question, is the consensus that shmelke is a better cue for the price even though the players comes with a kamui tip and the low deflection shaft vs. a generic leather tip (I assume) and standard shaft?

Where does the Shmelke shine? Is it the fit and finish? materials? attention to detail?

Kamui tips are about the most overrated thing Ive ever bought into. I like it less than the Tiger everest I replaced it with. Im gonna use a triangle henceforth. I vote Schmelke.

Great gift idea. Just did the same thing for a wedding gift myself for my buddy. I did get help from 3 others & we had a custom built for him though.

I would recommend against a Dale Perry cue as his customer service, should you need it, is poor.

In the $150 range you can actually have a great cue made or get one from their ready-stock at USA cuemaker, www.schmelkecue.com

they make a great hitting, high quality cue and have a stellar rep.

best,

Don't see how you could get a better playing cue for the money.

Thanks to all for the advice and replies. I scraped together some small gift cards and applied for a promotional credit card for a $50 buck credit and was able to land this stick from amazon (not ebay)right at my budget:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Pechauer-JP-7M-Pool-Cue-/222199863546?hash=item33bc24d8fa:g:Kv0AAOSwRgJXl51m

It looks great, has generally good reviews, a great warranty...I am not sure if it is a better option than the schmelke, but with the discounts amazon was offering, I hope it turns out to be a good choice for a respectable stick. Would love to hear thoughts on this brand/ stick...

You did good, sir. Pechauer makes FINE cues. Definitely a step up (or more) from Schmelke. That's come crafty shopping.

Yes, your friend is very lucky to have a buddy like you. There was some good advice in this thread. I bought my daughter a Schmelke. I personally think they own the price point you initially quoted with their customization options, but you did really well going on your own. Pechauer makes on hell of a cue!

I bought a cuetec r360 a few years ago and I've been very happy with it- it is a bit above $150 though

I know this certainly shows my ignorance, but could one of you fine people phonetically spell the name for me so I don't sound like a complete moron when talking abou the cue?

Does it sound like pee- shower? ;)

Pa- chawer?

Thanks again to all for the help!

Good choice...you should have a happy groom. After the honeymoon, of course. I use a Pechauer Break...it's very well made.

LOL!

An Oregon State Cop pulled over a car with Tennessee plates, and asked:
"Got any I.D.?

Tennessee driver: "'Bout what?"

If you ever want to fit in where I'm from, just add an "r" to any word that ends with a vowel sound...

We eat baked taters with our steak, we eat bananers to keep from getting cramps, and if we have an idear that a tornader is coming, we go to someone's house that ain't settin' on on a trailer or concrete blocks....

But I wouldn't live anywhere else!

I love the answers.

When Jerry Pechauer used to be a relatively frequent internet poster, he told us EXACTLY how it's really pronounced, but he also answered to various pronuncations.

It's pet chower (to which he clarifies in another link that the 't' is silent)

Link where Jerry Pechauer tells us how he pronounces his name

And where he clarifies a little more

I have the same issue with my last name. The right way to pronounce it is more difficult to say.

Freddie <~~~ but what does Jerry know?
