Is it common to have a LD shaft that doesn't match your butt end diameter exactly at the joint?
Mine overhangs very slightly in one spot.
Creating a little lip. Probably only 1 mm. But noticeable.

I'm not trying to name drop or disparage.
I am extremely happy with the way it plays!

This is the first new shaft I have bought for my original cue, and just wanted to pose the question.

Also, what can be done about the overhang?
It is a black phenolic type joint..

Got to sleep. Will check back in the AM.
Thanks for any help.

Yes it is common. Yes, it likely can be matched, but rely on the cue repair guy or cue maker to say the best course of action.

That what I was hoping for. Thanks for the replies.
Have a vacation coming up. Perfect time to get it done.

A 1 mm difference is huge, I have some shafts that are just off the shelf ones that you can feel the lip a lot more than the ones that came with the cue, but it's more like 1/10th of a mm. If you get a shaft made, the cue maker would often ask to hold on to the cue to match the joint diameter even if you just use a plain collar instead of ringwork.

It may be less than that. Just a guess.
I'm real happy with it otherwise.
I might just wait until next years Expo and get it fixed up.

As I'm sure someone can fix it to make it better, next time buy an LD partial shaft, and have the local cue maker fit it perfect to the cue.

Im guessing you don't really know what 1mm is. I have aftermarket shafts that are about .005" over one of my butts it drives me crazy. .010" over and I start climbing walls.

1mm is .040"

{edit: looks like you addressed this}

That overhang is called the "shaft lip." Be careful the shaft lip doesn't come in contact with the titty nipple on the side pocket.

LOL
Thanks again everyone.
I have decided to ship butt end and shaft back to have it matched up nice.

.

If the lip or over hang is the same all the way around I would say that would be normal.

But if just in one spot...no that is not normal.

It could be an issue with your butt pin placement or even your butt joint not being concentric.
