Jacoby Hybrid Shafts

A long while back I borrowed and squirt tested a Jacoby Hybrid Shaft that had a hard tip on it. I didn't like the tip or hit from it but man the thing played awesome in regards to squirt and vibration.

So the other day I managed to pick up a used one and omg what a great hitting shaft.
I play with different types of shafts and types of Side Spin applications noting similarities but man this shaft hits good. Mine has a Kamui clear medium hard tip on it and hits really soft.

The one I borrowed with the hard tip hit really stiff. What a great shaft that will let you tailor the hit that much with tip alone.

I'd love to own all of the LD's and have played with most of them at one time or another by borrowing from friends but this is the first I've bought.

I consider myself a maple shaft purist but this shaft has really shown me something about improving ones game with better equipment. I'm going to give this thing a real testing the next 6 months and see what my opinions are then.

I'd love to hear comments about this shaft and other LD's that people play with and like that have owned their equipment for awhile. Especially would like to hear from those who play One Pocket.

I originally posted about how great I thought they were, after a while I was less enthused. Tryed differant tips as I felt the original was to hard for the shaft/ferrule:confused:

Gave up:frown: sold both to friends:grin: After all if you cant screw your friends, who can you screw:wink:

Mark Finkelstein recommended the Jacoby Hybrid shaft to me and let me try it out. I purchased one the next day and never looked back. I love this shaft. I purchased a Predator P3 Revo last year to try out the Revo shaft, but I found myself playing with my Jacoby shaft so much more that I sold the Revo. I cannot say enough about how well the Jacoby plays.

Same here. I've played with all LD shafts and found that the Jacoby Hybrid Edge was the best for me. Kamui Medium Clear. Terrific combination.

I fooled with the LD's for a while too. Good old hard maple shaft with a hard non laminated tip works for me. My shafts are 12.25 with a long taper. People tell me they play like an LD. All I know is I never felt really comfortable with the advertised LD shafts.

Absolutely

I favor the same regular maple only I like 12.80/12.75 with a long taper. They play very similar to an LD but the LD Jacoby Hybrid has somethings I really like but I dont like the taper near as much.

I like the fact that with off center cueing with a stroke you get a very consistent hit and feel. I like the stability of the shaft and the fact that there is very manageable squirt.

I like the feedback that I get from the shaft with a medium hard tip, next time I will go soft. I use Elkmasters on my regular playing shafts. The Jacoby has the Kamui Clear Medium.

I've been working with the shaft the last few days. Still impressed. I am interested in how it works the ball with partial masse.

I shoot with predator cues and switched to a revo because I wanted something stiffer feeling. Which is why I love the jacoby edge, it's got a nice stiff feel to it. I've only gotten to play with one for a moment but I could tell how nice it was immediately. I'd get one if I was in the market for a cue. I just love how tough the revo is.

Thanks for the reply but I keep it very simple. I don't think about squirt or deflection. If I do it is purely subconscious. My player is a Joss with 2 Joss hard maple shafts turned to my liking. Nice and stiff. Works for 3 cushion too.

I use LD to keep it even more simple. Seems to work for most folks that use LD. So, there must be something to it.

To answer Robin, I use OB shaft, 11.75 mm. Made everything a lot easier but especially using inside English for me.

I'm sure they work for some people. So does a Revo which I wasn't impressed with. I also have the OB 11.75mm. Hated the pro taper so I had it lengthened so it felt better moving through my bridge. I basically couldn't see a difference. Believe it or not I don't even use a break stick any more. I don't smash the rack but I have more control of the cue ball. I'm even okay with master chalk. I'm an Indian not the arrow guy. Old school I guess.

I know you probably know better, but "maple shaft" and "Low Deflection" are not really separate. Many custom cuemakers make LD shafts that are one piece maple not laminated like Predator or OB shafts, also the Players HXT shafts are LD but one piece maple. A good friend of mine has a Mike Webb LD shaft that is one piece of maple, it plays amazing, I have a one piece maple LD shaft from another cue maker, it also plays well with decent LD qualities.

Anyhow, multi piece construction in shafts probably has an advantage like with guitar necks or any well done laminated wood part "However, to made the neck even stronger and resistant to warping, a guitar manufacturer, may cut that same piece into 3, take the middle piece, reverse it, so that it opposes the grain of the other 2 outside pieces, making the neck stronger."

I worked with allowance amounts for different shaft and really I could play fairly well with whatever you hand me but after I felt Id done about as much work/investigation on squirt allowances I felt it was time to give LD a prolonged spin.

I'm happy so far and I'm kind of like why wouldnt you? at least until you've seen what the world of LD has to offer. I may end up going back but for now, I'm having fun.
