Another bar 8 ball question

LOL I live in Pinch, WV. You can't imagine the double take I did when I saw the name 'Purple Plum.' I thought to myself "there's no way there was more than one Purple Plum that could have been considered rough." The I saw WV in your profile and knew I was right.

Wow! That's awesome! And I was really enjoying the place that night, until my buddy (Paul) attracted bad attention. Is it still the "Purple Plum"? And have the bar rules gotten more in line with the times? (And do I owe you a beer? Lol)

My simple solution is don't play fu#$*&#* bar box 8 ball
Or 8 ball period

It's like everyone that plays on them has some variant of rules and they never tell you about them until you make what they think is a foul
Yep. Agree 100%. Bar pool sux.

When playing in a bar (I know, don't play pool in bars) how do you feel about the 8 ball shot having to go in "clean" without touching opponent's ball? I would like to be able to call the shot as either "clean" or "off a rail" or "carom off opponent's ball". If I make the called shot, I win. I hear arguments that the 8 ball must always be a "clean" shot no matter what. I'm curious as to how many of you prefer the "clean only" 8 ball shot over calling contact.

Dumb rule that I always clarify before playing.

Oh no, it shut down years ago. Now it's a greasy spoon restaurant/bar with no pool tables. So I never go there. Lol

~whiny question~
The rule applies to both players so who cares.

I love these guys who just jump in with comments and no advice.

Just Play.

Just buy a cue and play.

Get to practicing son.

The question was how to handle a Rules question in a bar table game of pool.
If I was playing you, I would have to accept "your" rules just to keep things normal.
That is, as normal as a bar is and can be.

How about just sticking to the normal, official 8 ball rules? They are easy and boring enough for anybody to comprehend...

You can decide about the break (kitchen rule, ...) however you like.
That way any confusion (and strange playing, I might add) is avoided.

To conclude, I have also never heard about this rule. I just heard about "8 ball must go into diagonally opposite pocket than last ball".
Which is a crap rule, too.

Cheers,
M

Bar table players like their rules for a couple reasons, "professional" pool rules, those are the ones actually in some form of print, are too easy for them, they are all "top tier players", they just dont feel like competing against "professionals" who play in weekly tournaments. Then by conjuring up all of their ridiculous rules they get more bang for the buck. They spend more time playing one game of pool because each game is a minimum of 25 innings, at the end of the night they probably saved themselves about 7 quarters.
