Schon vs. Joss, price on used market

I've been considering buying a used cue as a spare to my Schon SL6 I bought in the mid '90's. In general, the Joss cues seem to sell a bit lower than the Schon on the used market. A Schon might sell for $600 where a similar Joss might be $400. I know there is a lot of variables here but is the Schon a bit higher quality cue?

I have some extra shafts for my Schon so buying a Joss would allow me to use them on it. Also, are Joss cues made in the states?

Thanks

Schon's are nicer cues and yes, JOSS's are made in U.S. You can find used JOSS's pretty cheap and they play just fine.

Are Joss made in the states? Yes. All of them.

Price? Generally Joss cost less, new and used.

Quality? Well, I would ask why this cue isn't cored: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=452011&highlight=schon

I'm pretty sure your schon shafts won't work on your joss butt. Even though they are the same pin, the pilot on the the shaft keeps it from tighting down all the way. But I do believe a joss shaft will work on a schon butt. Maybe someone can comment on this , and confirm if this is correct.

Different pin actually.

Id be partial to Joss... they are made about 10mins away from me.

Yep. Joss shaft will fit a Schon but not vice versa. Schon pilot's too big as you said.

I much prefer shooting with my $300 Joss to shooting with my $800 Schon. Schon is an ok cue, and they have (or at least HAD) a good reputation - but I'll take a Joss 8 days a week.

Schon's are nicer cues

There is another Shon thread in the cuemaker forum where it was revealed that a Schon with a finish issue actually had a butt sleeve painted to look ebony...done by the schon.

I posted the link to the broken one to show it's not cored.

Are they nicer? Many think so.

I am not so sold on the idea.

I just like to say I think the Joss is a better value and leave it at that.

You can pick up a Joss player any time for basically less than the price of a shaft.

Nicer? Many (most?) feel Shon are nicer.

Schon's are more expensive and some players think cost relates to better. I'll stick with Joss. I think it is the best value on the market and still a pure pool company not a pool marketing company which is what some production cue makers have evolved into. I won't mention any names but these companies get riduculous prices for their wares.
