Scott Gracio Cues

Thanks Dave--I will- this is the objective feedback that i was originally requesting. Most everyone 's comments lead me to believe that Scott Gracio was on track to be regarded right up there with the very top cuemakers- too bad he had such a rough personal life experience; seems like those who are fortunate enough to own one of his higher end cues have a gem on their hands and that people are not parting with them very easily. My cue is due here tomorrow- cannot wait to get it!

IMO, He had a long way to go to be considered equivalent to a 'very top cuemaker'. With guys like Jim buss, pat diveney, jerry raz., Paul mottey...he really needed another decade or 3 under his belt to join that club.

id think you should have revealed your purchase before you did. Kind of a common courtesy to disclose your position?

Black- balled- You have gone too far-- your opinions are just not welcome here, you have disrupted my simple ask right from the start- please go get a LIFE! AZ should ban people like you, as you obviously have nothing better to do than get in other people's ####- Just go AWAY- please!

REALLY!! Another decade or 3 of cue making to be considered a top cue maker?? I guess Balabushka did not live long enough either-did he need 3 decades--did Szamboti need 3 decades - Thanks for setting us all straight on the "new" standard for great cue makers! Shame on you for knocking a guy who had to leave the cue making profession due to caring for a wife who had heart and lung transplants- shame on you! EVERYBODY who I spoke with who ACTUALLY owned one of his cues had nothing but great things to say about his construction and playability. BTW- I pulled the trigger and bought one of his cues after my first post- did you ever hear of overnite Mail delivery?

He may have been on track to greatness like a lot of guys, that is true.
The cue sellers trying to make a buck pumps up a local guy they've attached themselves to, and the internet eats it up.
I call them internet cue builder's, and very few make it or can handle it.
Personally I look for cuemakers who made it without the internet.
One exception is Eric Crisp of Sugar Tree.
Eric would make it in any venue.
If you want to talk about. "being fortunate enough to own," then look for a Sugartree.

Full of the bull's shit, you are!

Before the internet, I wonder how people found out they just weren't cut out for internet forums?

Relax Mike, he was trying to help you!

Sorry TATE you are dead wrong here, he is NOT trying to HELP ME-- He never owned a Scott Gracio cue, so why even enter onto this thread to begin with- like someone would not know how to type a name into a search field? His last comments on Scott Gracio prove that he is now just trying to discredit the Gracio cue because I now own one. Scott's bad fortune does not need this guy's uninformed negativity on top of everything else. My original intent was to get current feedback from current or past Gracio cue owners, as such, only those with that specific background needed to reply- this experience leads me to now leave AZ billiards forums forever- too many people on here with nothing else to do. I thank all of you who replied with your personal experience with Gracio cues-- it was all very positive- and will have mine in a few hours.
Regards,
Mike Mosconi

I have never owned a jacked up truck either, but I know how they drive...

 Relax dude. Somehow I doubt your ownership has anything to do with the comments, regardless of what you might think. Sorry to hear you are leaving AZ, some are just not cut out to interact in a place like this, sounds like you are one.

I own a Gracio cue. Bought it because he splices his own cues. It is a nice cue, with obvious knife work to make the lower points sharp (if not straight). It is far to light for me to play with at 16.5 oz, it sits in my collection rack for the most part. The finish is OK (orange peeled a bit) but not up to the standard of my Blackcreek or Tucker. Having said that I understand the cue was built to be a take-to-bar sneaky and likely a low end (no rings and a very simple butt cap).

Hope you like the cue but recognize that it may not be good for you if you bought it without hitting with it first. I know this from experience, there are several sneaky petes in my collection that I cannot play with. Others who come over to play like some I do not, but it's an individual thing and every cue is a bit different.

Why would someone ask about information on how a cue plays that they have already purchased?

Why would someone be so defensive about a person they've never met and has no relationship with other than the fact they just purchased one of his cues?

Will the real Scott Gracio please stand up?

This guy obviously bought a cue on ebay or somewhere and was hoping to get positive feedback to justify his purchase. Unfortunately for him, the cue he purchased is from a less than desirable cuemaker. Now that he realizes that and he is getting defensive to make himself feel better about wasting that money. Ive hit with many cues to include gracio and its fine for a local cuemaker but nowhere near a "real" cuemaker.

Anything is possible but it isn't hard to find info on Gracio cues and Scott Gracio himself.

I've never had the opportunity to use one of his cues, but I've seen two of them at shows and they do appear to be well made cues. Beyond that, due to the history of the cuemaker, I would find no reason to own one, not with there being dozens of other fine cuemakers works to choose from.

I do recall concluding the man had an undeniable sense of colors and textures and how they come together...and seemed to have access to a selection of super nice wood too. It is a hard game to be an innovator in and to me, he made some visually excellent cues.

Given the history though, I have a bit of doubt he'd scrap a cue that required a hack to finish, rather than sell it as perfect, knowing it wasn't.
I have no direct awareness of any such slight.

I also thought the op might have been gracio. If he's reading, sorry for life's tough rolls.

?

Didn't he get picked for cue of the year by AZ members?

Or win something a long those lines. Sorry to here about the tough breaks
life threw his way.

I think he was on his way to being remember as a great cue maker til he didn't follow
threw with a customer or 2, sad cause he looked like he had a lot of talent. Maybe he
will get things right with people and in time maybe his cues will be worth a little something. I think that's what the OP wants to here.

I received my Scott Gracio cue yesterday. Will post pics soon. The cue is a homage to the more famous Zamboti ebony and ivory box and propeller cue that some may have seen in past billiard publications. Scott added dice pairs above and below the ivory boxes and propellers as his unique design concept. so the cue is all ebony wood and everything else- ferrules, joint, rings, inlays, buttcap is ivory. Wrap is black leather.
Myself and two other gents with a combined total of over 100 years experience dating back to the mid 1960's playing, collecting and viewing cues and billiards played a bit with the cue last night. One shaft will remain unplayed. Together the three of us have played with 80% of the top 25 cuemakers cues- in our opinion.
In terms of playability, the cue features a slight forward balance, feels a bit lighter than the 19.2 OZ weight, draws and spins easily, and displays a solid yet resonent hit on the cue ball that really rings very true. Shaft work is as good as any that we had seen.
Cue construction was right up there with the best- this may have been one of Gracio's last few cues- we are all amazed at his workmanship and detail expertise given that it appears he had a rather short cue making career.
All ivory inlays are totally flush to the cue body, original ivory dice inlays and the veneer boarders for the ivory boxes are executed with perfection. I cannot follow the leather wrap seam- that is how flawless it had been executed. Our collective overall view is that Scott Gracio was on track to be considered as an all time cuemaker- he obviously had more than the average skill and artistic insight coupled with great execution ability. What a shame that he had a bad break- hopefully he recovers and comes back to claim his rightful place in this profession. I am sorry if I offended anyone in this thread- was not meant to be that way. This cue will be a permanent part of my now small collection. Regards, Mike
