Forum software is a target for hackers and spammers. vBulletin has been hacked many times.

Enabling HTTPS alone will not guard against viruses and malware. The S in HTTPS means you're getting point to point encryption from server to browser. AFAIK, if your server isn't patched, you can still serve up viruses and malware.

Indeed. But certainly that is not an argument against https.

There are many aspects to security.

Getting the certificates up and going to make it https is a very good idea. It guarantees the site's integrity and is who it says it is (think spoofing). The above poster was right that unless servers are hardened and patched regularly, there will be vulnerabilities.
