I don't remember the last time I heard the estimated numbers but just in this country alone, How many Pool Leaguers in the US? also the world?

Robin...Somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.5 million. A half million in the many nationally sanctioned leagues (APA, BCAPL, VNEA, TAP etc), and 10x that many that play in small town local leagues, where they just play among themselves, and not to go to a national event. Those are the grassroots players that, if we could penetrate that group, would form a solid base and start the revolution to make pool big like we'd like to see it become!

Total numbers of league players in the world? I wouldn't have any idea...

Scott,
Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I'm getting at. If that group were to take part in the development of the sport, wow just wow. Not sure that it will ever happen. I was involved with a room that had 200 to 220 leaguers in over 3 days. They spent an average of $5 a piece in the room on their days to play. Part of that was the room owners fault though.

Thanks.

I think saying 10x is pretty strong. A lot of small town leagues i have seen, have some kind of sanctioning (VNEA mostly from my experience). However, i am from the Midwest, and maybe VNEA is more prevalent in certain areas.

I dont know how many people out there are like me but this year I played apa....tap and usapl. There were a few in my area that also played on all 3 this year and even more that played in his 2 leagues instead of all 3.

I agree. I think the half million of various flavors APA, BCA, Tap and the like wouldn't be far off but in my observation of room owners they really don't need a job running leagues. They have the bar business to manage so I'd probably lean toward maybe another 1/4 million of in house activity at the very most and perhaps even include at large players in that number.

It's still a lot of folks but not as many as people think considering the population of the US is around 326 million.

MitchAlsup...If you read my post, I spoke of the dozens of millions of small town league players that are not sanctioned. I don't understand the comment about 8-ball. It is the game ALL sanctioned leagues play (some play alternate games as well, but 8 ball is the mainstay), as well as the preferred game by all of the small town local leagues. It's still the most popular and most played pocket billiards game...at least in this country.

I believe that number and that is is likely low due to city/town leagues non affiliated with national groups.

I also believe that the vast majority of them play only 8-ball.
