Killer Shot

I don't use an aiming system. I also think the shot in question IS just another shot. What's so hard about it that an aiming system would fix? I must be missing something.

Some people have trouble with back cuts.

Someone is having trouble with it. That's what you are missing.

This shot has been a killer for me lately when practicing. Anybody have any tips on making this shot? I am talking here about a back-cut into the side pocket on the 3-Ball.

I've always found side pocket shots easier than I probably should relative to my level of advancement. Been over cutting back cuts into the corners way too much though. I can explain it to myself but that doesn't stop me doing it. I know exactly where you are coming from. The advice here all sounds pretty solid, mine would be just hit it low and play it as you see it until your confidence with that type of shot comes back.

I think you must have a set up issue if you're missing this shot. Because of the distance of the CB from the rail, I'd be checking your bridge. There's certainly no reason to be applying english.

Lots of people have problems with this shot, especially when shooting to a side pocket.

I've seen countless times, people playing this to the corner, which is nuts.

It's just a mental block. If you can shoot a back cut into a corner pocket, this is no different.

I also feel that there is no scratch, regardless of how its hit. You would have to over cut it by minimum 1/2 diamond, to get a scratch.

Start with center ball, a few times, then go to straight follow a few times, then straight draw a few times. Use the same speed on all the shots. Then change just the speed of the stroke, and repeat.

Pay attention to were the CB hits the end rail.

There's really no need at all for any spin, unless you need to avoid other balls. You can pretty much go anywhere on the table, with no spin.

Edit:... it's important to place the 2 balls exactly in the same spot..lol.
Try dabbing a little spit mark on both.

Does not appear to be that sharp of a cut so I'm not sure why it's bothering you? You should be able to make that shot with a variety of various englishes and speeds - depending on where you need to get the CB to for the next ball and avoiding other obstructing OB's. Too much draw or follow could risk scratching in either of the corner pockets. Inside english should send the CB down the upper side of the table after coming off the end rail, and outside english should send the CB down the lower side of the table after coming off the end rail. Sounds like you just need to practice this shot to gain more confidence in shooting it and getting the CB to end up where you want it.

The low left should be minimum like a half tip and it throws the object ball in the direction your cutting so it aids but if it’s an extreme cut I prefer then using inside and aiming edge to edge. The shot here is in no way an extreme cut and if I didn’t need inside for position I promise I’d never use it to make the shot easier. If it’s the 9 ball I’m cutting it almost entirely with the cue ball and the low left just helps to account for under cutting it

And like others have said the best thing to do when you don’t like a shit is practice it until you have no problem anymore. You’d be amazed how much this is told to beginners but I’m telling you I still do this every time I struggle with a shot and the after practicing it the next time it comes up I have confidence and that’s all pool is having confidence

I cannot give any advice on how to hit this shot, I am way to new for that. What I can do is tell you how I overcome troublesome shots.

I move the ball(s) to change the angle and make it easier, when I can hit that consistently, I move it back, gradually, to the original position that gave me trouble.

YMMV

And aiming systems are the answer?

Ugh, I meant to quote both your post and the post you quoted. Technologically challenged I am - please ignore and forget and forgive and all the rest.

My point is something along the lines of aiming systems is one of the least efficient ways to address this player's trouble with this shot. Nothing new about trouble with back cuts.

I guess it’s hard for some people, that’s ok. The picture in the OP doesn’t seem like a very difficult one though.

Least efficient ? :rotflmao::rotflmao:

Someone is looking to sell something here, just don't know what yet. Ingenious using a stupid easy shot though, definitely give you credit for that.

Yes. Problem with my grammar? Or do you think aiming systems will be a cure all for the OP? Or are you just rotflmao because you rotflmao?

I know for a fact they would be a cure for that shot. I'm laughing because some of you always have to take a cheap shot at things you don't know. But want to talk like you do know. And, somehow you think that actually helps others.

What if he’s not missing because of his aim? And how is saying “least efficient” a cheap shot? You’re being far more condescending than anyone here.

If I was playing someone for fun, in tournament, or even gambling... they are more then likely conceding this shot to me... and I'm doing the same in most cases.
