Question on discussing pros

Freddie and I go way back, to the days of RSB. Even more recently, I keep waiting for him to release the selfie he took of us at the MC last year.

He has a t-shirt I want. I'm trying to figure a fool-proof way of blackmailing him for it. If you've any handy ideas on that, lemme know ( but please, not a word to Freddie about it ).

I sat in front of Freddie on day one at MC last year. #FreeCommentary

Why do some of you think it's so bad to talk about pros and their performance?

If someone comments Johnny Archer is annoying cause he picks lent constantly or Berreta is slow, or someone played bad at the Mosconni cup, why shouldn't we talk about it, on a pool forum ??

Those of you who are against saying anything negative about a pro, do ya'll hate Yelp as well???
That is an honest sincere question!

When someone leaves a negative comment on a friends business page or on your own, do you respond the same way as in the Shot Clock thread.?

I have been criticized and critiqued in just about every job field by at least one person, I can't remember ever getting so triggered by someone's honest opinion.

Trying to see where the other side is coming from.
Thanks

There are respectful and disrespectful ways to do just about everything.... right??!
Some just don't care, or maybe know the difference IMO.

This is how you know for sure pool falls short of a professional sport. Internet hacks can say stuff about the players and it means something.

Have any of you read a real professional sport discussion board? No one there can throw a ball but they tear the players to shreds. No one takes it personal.

Pool is mom and pop.

^^^^^^^^^VERY TRUE^^^^^^^^^

But, just like a pro football player, the pro pool players don't give a ratzzz..azzzz what ANYONE on this board thinks or says. Just like any other pro athlete, all that matters to them is what or if they get paid. Nothing more, nothing less.

The scwablers will scwable.

And like the football fans that complain about the quarterback when they themselves can't throw anything, most all the scwablers on AZB do good to put a three pack together after a dozen tries.

An example

CJ did it to himself. Charlie Williams deserves every bit of abuse he gets...uses the place like a free billboard and never answers a question. One way streets only work downtown.

Other esteemed and missed members like Earthquake and others have been abused. Somebody mentions Ralf Souquet and the birds start chirping that he has no gamble and can't play for the cash. The world could use more Ralf's. I'm not sure you could find a better gentlemen or representative of the sport. But alas he's not a backroom guy so he's no good. Darren Appleton loses to SVB and he's an idiot. Jayson gets hot and he's a child. These guys are playing to put food on their tables and roofs over their families heads. You got pressures and deadlines at work. Try having to be the best in the building or you don't eat.

Look in the mirror...the problem is us. Pro's get abused and we watch and sometimes worse gang pile. We have members on here who would fight with the walls. Break countless rules. Walls of text and PM's. Openly sell on the forum with adding zero value. And yet they are still here.

I will out one of my friends. You can be critical without being mean spirited. Example Patrick Johnson. PJ is a great guy. A real student of the game. Speaks his mind. You come here with soft pseudoscience and he will ram it down your throat. As they say on the streets..."he keeps it real". Keeps it civil and yet he gets banned (ok sometimes it's death by cop...but that's for another reason). You can speak your mind without the personal attacks.

We need to police ourselves.
1. Act like an AZZ and you are out
2. Personal attacks...out
3. etc out.
4. Not like Cool Hand Luke and another night in the box with a fake apology and return.

I don't care if you make the best case, chalk, cue, table refinish or have hundreds of friends on here. One warning. One stay in the penalty box. One more and you are gone.

I use my real name and location. One google search and you found me. Don't think I can play...come visit or I might come visit you. Half the problem is that half the posters here hide behind an Avatar. But that's a discussion for another day.

My initials are my user name, and on occasion I sign my real name on private messages here. I think I would feel a little uncomfortable just having that all out there, you don't worry someone will "swatt" you or prank you in some way?

I saw someone photoshopped PJ'S actual face on a pro pool player over in the aiming forum a few days ago, I thought it was incredibly distasteful, seemed they were trying to antagonize him, maybe I missed something and it was all in good spirits, based upon what I saw it didn't seem that way

Yes, just bizarre. Many things you see in pool forum you do not see in other sports forums.

If you go on an MMA forum and criticise a pro fighter, no one will challenge you to fight that pro fighter.
But in here, it is par for the course.

I have seen it many times.
Similar to the pool talk. It's all dumb comentary.
If it had any merit many pro coaches wouldn't have jobs!!

I know what you are saying but the alternative is the anarchy we have here. People feel emboldened behind their masks and say stuff they would never say to a person's face or with their real names. There is a reason the Klan like their hoods (ps. nobody is implying that anyone is being labeled a neo-nazi etc). Maybe a middle ground is the Admin's get photo of your license and once verified you can go with a screen-name...kind of half way.

My entire approach is to share exactly who I am and then use that as incentive to weigh the stakes of my comments and force myself to a standard of civility, reason and constructive commentary. The last thing I want is an internet troll messing with me so I give myself every reason to think twice before engaging in any negativity.

IMHO, there's nothing wrong with comments about the performance of a Pro, as long as they are reasonably objective, reasonably accurate, not insulting and not personal attacks.
Here's a prime example of what's completely unacceptable: I can't even begin to imagine what sort of tortured soul would write something like this.
Let me ask you a question, do you condone a post like this?

She's going to be 50 this year in October. I find it strange that she masquerades as a 19 year old. She's an old lady and plays slow.

Considering this thread is a spin-off of the Jennifer Barretta thread, I think your post hits the nail on the head. Are we actually discussing performance or are we just airing misogyny in veiled or overt ways?

yay the site is back,

As for this thread, to each their own! I asked an honest question and the answers provided I changed my perspective.

There are enough nuances of pool that I would like to explore and talk about, so for me to get on here and get sidetracked discussing if someone plays to slow for my preference seems silly.
