Thanks, Gar... just finished reading it. Sad in a way... that way of life wasn't pretty but I think it was important, as an authentic piece of American history. And it's a way of life that's gone, for good. I don't really think people like Louie or Surfer Rod or tons of other lesser-known names could even exist anymore. And for good or bad, IMHO, that's a very sad thing. There was an energy, a mystery, a magic to that way of life that really can't be duplicated in any other way. There was a romance about it that even films can't capture. The Hustler came closest but even then, it was difficult to accurately portray what that life was really like. And now it's gone. And one by one, as the years flow by, the characters who made up that world are checking out. Before too terribly long, there will be nothing left but the stories. I suppose that will be enough. At any rate, it will have to be.

Thanks for the link, it made me think how I almost missed out on getting a autographed copy of Freddy's book.
I saved the PMs between us and I am glad I have his book and signature. It is a shame Freddy died at age 73 because he loved writing and talking about Pool.
