you have heard me speak of jack potter,known as Oak Cliff shorty
back when we were young

You have heard of his beautiful pool stroke and eagle eye,and his nose for smelling out a good game or a trap for that matter,

The time he needed to win the city baseball league championship and how he forged
my name to the list,or rather gave me the uniform with another name so i could play incognito

How I took the third baseman
s head off with a line drive on the first pitch only to be removed from the game because
his team mates were afraid it was too obvious that i was not a working man






I have let you in on the time
Jack took half my action playing Pete Glenn the best pool hustler in the world
yet we didn't know it so we played some high dollar one pocket I won the first game and wanted to jack the bet,following the tried and true maxim that winning the first game is a good sign

Problem was in most of our gambling i was putting up the money and Jack did the playing

well watching from the side made Jack nervous,he seemed to think it was necessary to be able to play good to win the money,he knew I didn't play good and this scared him,no heart

So Jack pulled up,no heart

i went on to lose but i had heart
heart cost you money

Well Jack found out I had the Schon Petersen tribute cue with ivory joint,
he calls up here and tells me he needs to make sure my shafts are slick

now he has my cue in Temple Texas and is out playing pool with my cue which had never hit a ball

and I am in Dallas doing nothing,old age makes us all suckers sooner or later

I would never have fallen for this 40 years ago
 
For some reason I think Dean and Jack have had a lot of fun....
...and they’re life-long friends....closer than brothers.
 
my wife my dog my lunch my tools my records my pens, my Davey Crocket pen knife, .... a Schon Tribute never. A fool and his cue are soon parted.

He liked my cue so much he says he is considering a co op deal witth a prominent custom cue maker

make this design only a little fancier joint ring and mother of pearl with a steel joint cue

If jack does this,i will be selling 10 Libra co-op cues a lot like this beautiful schon

Yeah well I can tell ya I've been there before..lol

I can remember I had a "move" put on me when I was a youngin'. When I was in my early 20's I was a pretty good up and coming player in my area but still what you'd concider pretty green when it came to the ways of recognizing the hustle.

I worked in downtown Chicago at the outrageously chaotic but unbelievably organized Chicago Boad Of Trade. With me, in another company, worked John Wright the famous pool cue seller. John would come through the atrium on many mornings with a big case filled with lots of goodies to peddle and from time to time would come by to show me his wares. Well on one particular day he showed me all these new cues made by a guy named Kersenbrock. Well I'd heard the name and knew the cues from a mentor of mine, Mr. Dick Weaver. Dick had a couple of them and he told me they were great cues and to grab one if I ever had the chance. Well that day I chose a beautiful ebony nosed cue with rosewood points with single green veneer, rosewood sleeve and ebony butt cap. Had a nice deep look. It was a little pricey though for a relatively plain cue with no inlay work.. $375!!:eek: (hind sight's 20/20 :wink:)

Ok, so I get it home and for a couple months it becomes my daily player. One weekend afternoon I bring it out to my local hall, owned by Dick, and I get my tray of balls put them on the table unpack my cue and put it together. I throw the balls out on the table and before I could get a shot off this gentelman walks up to me, incidentally this same man was standing at the front counter talking with Dick when I walked in, and says "that sure is a pretty stick you got there. You mind if I hit some balls with it?". Well me being the nice guy that I WAS, lol, I said sure. Well boy he played with that cue so well and told me tons of stories about being on the road playing in different places and all the while taking my focus off the nice cue I had and bringing me into his world. I was so enthralled by his demeanor and way with a story.

Well some time passed, I actually learned alot from him that day, and at the end of our session he said something to the effect of, "boy it sure would he nice to play with a cue like that all the time. You wouldn't want to let a guy like me have a cue like that would ya? I'd pay ya a fair price!... Well I was so taken by this worldly gentleman's nature, knowledge, and stories he was willing to impart on such a virgin soul that I told him I would sell it to him AND I did for less than what I paid $325!!!!

Well years passed and though this stuck with me for sometime I eventually put it out of my mind until one day I was having a conversation with Dick and asked him "what ever happened to the smooth talker who swayed me into selling them my Kersenbrock". He said "oh you mean Dean Campbell?"!! :eek: LOL

Well some time ago I mentioned this story to you Dean and you vehemently denied you were that gentleman. Well I'll tell ya Dean if it wasnt you, you must have a twin roaming around with the same gift of being able to reel one in with conversational persuasion. Haha:)

I admit to knowing Dick Weaver I was in Chicago the year they played their first night game in Wrigly field,but I don't rmember buying your cue

I have owned several Kirsenback,i met him in Vegas ,but if it required smooth talking

it must have been someone else

I know for sure that I don't have the cue now,I wish i did
