Would Granite or Quartz Work?

Sorry, but that looks like a colossal waste of time.

No friggin way can anyone (the time bandit is barred) could spend an hour on that torture device.

Most don't have room for a table where they live. What if someone wanted to build a 7-9' X 4" runway-like area using granite or quartz embedded in something like a wooden work bench with some kind of make-shift 4.25" pocket for practicing long straight-in shots. Would taking a near perfect flat 1" piece of this stuff covered with simonis cloth be anywhere near a good simulation of slate?

Getting the bench level would be challenge, but only asking about how realistic the ball would roll here. Thanks.

You could go on the cheap and chop, then join a bar box for some nice LONG shots. :)

Go to your local "game room" vendor who supplies tables for tournaments and bars and I bet they'd have some broken Valley slates they'd give you for cheep or free.

A guy I know got a small piece he uses just to practice jump shots.

I'm not saying that it is so fun to practice on something like this I've just seen this like you called it "torture device" on FB yesterday. The idea is not so new and you may be surprised that I had students with curiousity and imagination who asked me about something like this to practice at home. I mean it was their initiative and desire to work on their stroke at home. It may be there are masochists who just like some torture devices.
