purchased cue with fractured handle and going to replace it.

cue was originally 20 ounce, shaft 4oz, butt with wrap 16oz.

new handle weight? about what should the new handle weigh?

About the same as the old handle.

original handle for the most part removed.

I've chosen 3 different woods to replace it. maple, rosewood, purpleheart.

when I replace handle, what should I know?

maple wood is traditional, purpleheart has been recommended, I like the rosewood.

I am confused as to what information you are needing.

If you want the cue to weigh about the same with the new handle, you should use the same species of wood as the original handle. If you want the cue to weigh less, use a lighter density species. More, use a heavier density species.

If you want the repaired cue to weight as close as possible to the original cue, you should machine a piece of the broken handle to a uniform shape and calculate the density. Choose a handle from your handle stock with a matching density.

What's the mission ?
You want to preserve the hit and weight as much as possible ?
Use the same handle material.

I didn't think of that.

a lot of people recommended purpleheart, I was thinking rosewood.

no matter which wood I go with, should it be cored?

Don't listen to a lot of people.
Decide yourself and just do it.
What's the worst that can happen ?

You'd learn a lesson you probably won't forget .
If it turns out great, your reward is satisfaction.

Not all handles SHOULD be cored .
When you do, again you are trying to accomplish something.
Ask yourself what it is .

I agree with joey. A lot of people think a lot of things. Are they Cue makers? I get that too. Usually from people who think they're educated because they read is some where on the web. Lmao

Purple Heart and rosewood will increase the weight. Coring adds stability, but I usually don't core straight grain maple.
