I have posted a magazine article to the US pool and billiard history sub-forum. It begins:

THERE was a time when it was customary for your host, once the cordial was served, to invite you to a game of billiards. But for several reasons the billiard games have been in the doldrums in recent years and it is a rare discovery to find a billiard room in the home of a friend.

There is, or was, "straight rail" billiards, now practically obsolete, in which points were made when the cue ball caromed off the other two object balls. As the ardent enthusiasts admit, this really wasn't "much of a game."

Interesting these enthusiasts seem to have the same attitude most do about straight rail, whom are all ignorant to exactly how hard it really is

As if the balls simply gather themselves and just stay that way as easy as saying it

Interesting or not to watch, the game is really hard to all but elite players
And even elite players can still miss , hell i seen sam van etten miss and lose in straight rail last yr

The same guy who had multiple 175 run outs of 71.2
Who had a 99 run in 1 cushion
Who regularly runs out 47.2 at 250 an inning
